Is Jiang Zemin Dead?

No offence, although what you said happens a lot, what you said was still categorizing people like "ahh, they are that kind of buch bla bla bla...", which just now heated up in the previous postes debate.

I can felt MwRYum's sentiment regarding the "core issue" of the debate, I am not surprised regionalism simply exists universly. Marseilles people and Paris people don't get along; Detroiter didn't have a hight regards among New Yorkers; Northeastern Japanese being "alienized" by their own kins; I guess Scottish & English is also a given... The thing is, talking about the flaws of certain group of people, dose get you into trouble, despite no intention of bashing at first place.

I think this thread would eventually cool down, just like the next-door OBL's thread (which heated up tensions also). The point is that we good members of SDF are not necessary to have emotional attachment in our OTHER day-to-day, high quality posts, nor do we need to emotionally "spit certain members credits" from now on.

Otherwise, go take a hike at other forums, right everyone?

No refund, I guess?

As the comediene Russell Peters would say in his skit about Chinese traders

"You want refund?" Noooooooooooooooo To day I here give you refund tomorrow I bankrupt.

Seriously DVD's are ok for the average run of the mill movie but nothing beats watching a good movie on the big screen IMO

P.S.substituted discount for refund

It seems "that movie" has rised to a new topic, I would like to comment, too.

The biggest joke about "that movie", is that - a bunch of foreigners came to China and helps to build us a CCP - take a look at the nationalities of the actors and actress...

Like 60th anniversary of PRC "movie present" 建国大业, the 90th anniversary of CCP "movie present" 建党伟业, is another "LET'S F*CK THE AUTHORITIES AT THEIR BIG DAY" production. On top of "foreigners came to help build the party and the nation", the basic idea of this two movies are just f*ck the last remanents of the achievements of the pre-reform & open (pre-改革开放) years, in a way subtly (very subtly).

Bare in mind that these two production, are all COMMERCIAL production. In fact, the only reason these two joker movie didn't get shut down by the authority at first place, but even get promoted across the land - is only because the tough background of the producers and investors.

It is a little bit off topic, that people in China with keen eyes, by "read" (read the movie, not only watch) the two prestigious production, actually feels out how WRONG the nowadays "more and more democracy, more and more free-market" society is. (they way it is wrong, not saying democracy and free-market itself is wrong)

It is by that, I actually recommend people here to take a HD pirate copy of the movies and spend time to "read" it.

Some of the pirated DVDs I purchased didnt work
My experience is that the locally made cheap Chinese brand DVD players can play those pirated DVDs much better than your Sony or Panasonic brand name ones.

Indeed, and I learned that - along with several of my relatives - back in 2003 while I was studying in Canada.

So this became a common sight - 2 DVD players they bought, usually a nice MIJ/MIK model from BestBuy (or equivalent) and a MIC model one from Chinatown...former for all the nice DVDs bought locally at HMV (or equivalent) and latter for all the bootlegged ones.

Don't know about the BD disc though...

Refund for 2 yuan? It's not even worth the effort of trudging down the street corner, especially in summer heat. Or winter cold. Still, if you speak like a native, they usually do give you refunds.

I got a DVD player from China several years back, and it broke down in one year. :(

That's when I bought a Panasonic DVD player from Best Buy, and it plays pretty much everything, even AVIs that I burn to disc myself. You just have to know what kind of DVD player to buy. If you don't know, you can always bring a disc and test it in the store.

Don't buy Sony. They're copyrighted to hell and can't play anything.

Looks like our resident lefty is not amused. ;)

take a pill, drink some water, and chill man. ;)

No harm in these movies. They got official backing of "Propaganda Dept" of the communists. or you think it is all capitalist roaders in the CPC now and it is time for a good ole fashioned Anti-Rightist movement?

Did I get all the lingos correct?

Anyways, as we can see the current communist is disliked by both the "true" leftist and the right leaning "capitalists". I always consider being disliked by extremists a sign of you are doing some correct.

Not sure what exactly you're responding to, but I think the propaganda methods of the CCP seems to have remained in the 1950's.

Seriously, whoever is running that department should all be fired and marketing firms be brought in. If the CCP is trying to promote their "brand", they need to keep up with the times.

Marketing firms won't do squat. They need to ease on the censors so they could gain support from more literary intellectuals.

Literary intellectuals can't do propaganda. Hell, the current propaganda campaigns probably *are* designed by literary intellectuals!
