I believe Jiang Zemin is in bad shape, that's open secret.

And like "leaked" software internal testing version always have bugs - I am satisfied to wait for the official release.

Bare in mind that people do this (release rumors) to twist stock market - in their favor, not in yours - if you are rushing to do something about your stocks, after you heard certain rumor.

that's what the newspaper said. If you read Chinese, below is what the paper actually said:

On the other hand, a new development from CNN which came in about an hour ago says that Xinhua (the official news agency) says that this piece of news is just rumours.

Who to believe?

The Hong Kong television network already apologized for the misreport. Western sources like the CNN usually get their information from Chinese sources and they are often one step behind the game.

I am gonna trust Xinhua on this one. If they are not confident that Jiang won't recover they won't come out and say that this is a rumour.

And speaking on this subject, on the 6th - the night when ATV broke the "news", there were a few protesters went to the front door of PRC representative office in HK and open a few bottles of champagnes...

Anyway, Jiang's health problem is no news: back in 2009 October 1st celebration Jiang already appeared old and frail, and when he didn't appear in the CPC 90th anniversary celebration on July 1st it generated more buzz on this subject.

In a way, figures like Jiang are "property of the state/party" as much as they (or their faction, whichever fits) held the party/state at their whim, and now given the CPC is still doing the 90th anniversary celebration at full steam, his departure at this time would certainly rain on the parade. So if that's the case, it'd be predictable that they keep Jiang on life support until the celebrations are over, then make that announcement.

So he might be "brain dead" instead of plain "dead"?

Also I think ATV might be getting back at him for the "too young, too simple, some times naive" comment he made a while back. :D :D :D

Just goes to show. if you want reliable news concerning state affairs within China you've gotta stay with Xinhua.

P.S. OMG I never thought I would ever say that.

In a way, yes, for in most cases to transgress from "brain dead" to just "dead" is the simple removal of life support.

And in support of that assumption, the Xinhua statement just said Jiang isn't dead, but said nothing about his current state of health, or to be exact, anything to say that he's no "just meat with tubes stuck in him".

reminds me of this episode of simpsons where burns drowned himself in his own tub and in oerrd to complete the investor's speech, homer and smithers strung him up and danced his dead corpse around. now if only we can imagine wen and hu being homer and smithers, with jiang being the dead puppet...

Guys, I don't like Jiang Zeming much, but as most people here are of Chinese origin, please make some Chinese tradition of show some respect to a dying man.

Ask around, how's your country's leader's exact health condition? - It's a classified information, too.
