New Delhi: On 11 November, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported that the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) flew an H-6K bomber near the border with India. The report was also shared by other Chinese and Indian news media outlets.
In a show to mark PLA Air Force’s 72nd anniversary, CCTV aired footage of an H-6k flying over a mountain range claiming that the aircraft had been sent to the Himalayas.

by the South China Morning Post quoted experts as saying that the alleged deployment was “definitely a warning to India”.
“New Delhi is within the combat range of the H-6k and the striking range of CJ-20”, the report quoted Macau-based Military observer Antony Wong.
Another former PLA instructor was quoted as saying, “China will not attack civilian areas, so Delhi will not be targeted by air-launched missiles even though the capital is quite close to the border”.
However, scholar and columnist Aadil Brar shared the CCTV’s images on Twitter, saying it is “unlikely that the H-6K was flown in the area any time recently. The backdrop has far less snow for a November in the Himalayas.”
A Twitter user Kyang Thang, aware of the Tibetan geography, said the footage of the bomber is from the uninhabited region in Amdo called Hoh Xil/ Achen Ganggye, which is one of the three traditional regions of Tibet. The user also shared a picture of the landscape of the region, which looks similar to the one shown in the CCTV footage.

A simple Google map search shows that the area is quite far from the India-China border.
“Though the analysis posted by the Twitter handle does suggest the images were from Amdo it still doesn’t entirely discount that Chinese PLA has the capability to fly an H-6K near the border. China, of course, uses information warfare strategy to obfuscate but at times such a strategy is meant for a domestic audience,” Aadil Brar told ThePrint.
“It’s China’s usual information warfare that we have seen since the beginning of border stand-off. But the bomber definitely can demonstrate the capability to fly close to the border if required,” he added.

Not the first time

This isn’t the first time that China has been called out for sharing fake news.

a photo of inflated balloons disguised as missile launchers for HQ-16 Surface to Air Missile, which the CCTV had later removed.

I hope members here go through these allegations and understand what exactly is the "issue" here.
I don't need to type much.

Do those jokers not understand the concept of a decoy?

And they have the galls to accuse China of peddling fake news. Ahem detecting J-20 with MKI radars, 40 PLA soldiers killed, F-16 shot down by Abinandan, Su-35 shot down by Taiwan, 300 terrorists killed in Balakot strike, Modi makes New York headline as Democracy's last hope... Is this enough or do you want me to continue here?

Also, I think I read from this forum itself that CCTV has a habit of making stupid errors and fumbling with the "packing" of content.

Real armies use real weapons.

Only weak and soft PLA uses these fake weapons to scare the mighty Indian galactic army

Indian Supapowe army also likes to fight the enemy without weapons and only with bare hands. Weak PLA can only use fake weapons such as bombers, guns, missiles etc

That's how 1 Indian soldier managed to kill 1300 PLA soldiers

Stronk India > Weak PLA

Indians don't seem to realise that to become a US ally you need to buy into their MIC.
And India understands.
So many quid pro quo orders from India to US - Howitzers, Attack heli, UCAV, Helicopters etc.

The thing is, India isn't insisting on the usual Transfer of Technology condition while placing the orders. I didn't know only Russia had the obligation to consider transferring technology. Amusing.

They also pick the strangest things to claim fake news about. A H-6K flying within Chinese borders is perfectly reasonable. And as you mentioned, whoever wrote the article doesn't seem to know what a decoy is.

The same with the POW pictures - everyone knows the PLA captured prisoners, do they think they weren't photographed or videoed?

Then again all of this is aimed at the Indian public where critical thinking skills seem to be lacking.

It's called deception or psychological war. After all, China and India are in a conflict regardless of wether the two countries haven't engaged in a kinetic action.

The Indians can crow and whine like hyenas all they want and use these minformation as proof not to take the PLA resolve only for them to be surprised and decimated ala 1962 outcome. The fact that India is REACTING and SPENDING precious $$$ in matching the PLA weapons by weapons, hardware by hardware not to mention spending infrastructure to just try and match seemingly relentless construction are eating up their very limited $$$ from being spent on actual IMPORTANT STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES that's actually crucial for India.

What China is doing in my opinion is a classic application of Sun Tzu strategy along with OODA theory loop along the way.

I am not putting any ounce of credibility or even credulity on these so called "revelations" from the usual whiners. The question they should be asking themselves is this: Are the money being spent on a tactical issue able to meet the strategic objectives India aims to accomplish against China or are they simply being bled to spend money away from the more important stuff without ever realizing until it's too late.

I believe, in the first accusation ( that of H6K bomber and the background ), CCTV used random imagery that alludes to Himalayan terrain and didn't actually give out a video of H6K flying to the border as CCTV mentioned. But this Indian media saw this as a "Deception Tactic". Quite a bit of reach and the standard for Deception seem very low for this analyst. The weird part is him agreeing that it doesn't mean H6K can't fly to the border or further. Same with the second allegation.

I do agree with the actual 'Deception' part for the third allegation. Indeed an inflatable decoy is a deception tactic. But India also

The H6K footage may just have been stock footage the tv channel had to hand showing an H6K flying over mountains, not some epic misinformation campaign. I remember the BBC News talking about the then brand new, 16000t Vanguard class submarines about 30 years ago, to illustrate the story they showed footage of a 1950's vintage, 2500t Oberon class boat sailing up the Clyde!

The Jai unhinged are the one's to cry foul when their own Supa dupa PM is busy making and creating his own fiction. This time using the stock photo of Beijing International Airport for his party’s (BJP) promotional nonsense.
