Hong-Kong Protests

The Victoria Road Detention Centre is where the British Intelligence Service or MI5 used to imprison political dissidents and leftists during the 1967 Riots in HK. HK people are basically unaware of this piece of history.

Firstly, the UK was never given a choice not to handover Hong Kong. To say the handover would not happen without promises from China is just ignorance. Secondly, Hong Kong doesn't have democracy in the first place not sure how you cherish something you don't have.

The PLA could have taken the indian approach to Goa, when it came to HK but never did; if anything, it shows that civility and decency to the anglo nations is regarded as a sign of weakness. You need to break out the spiked nail club.

I wouldn’t say it was civility and decency that prevented PLA from invading HK, it was just a matter of pragmatism. Zhou Enlai had foresight to think far ahead. PRC would gain a lot more from keeping HK as a British Colony than taking it by force.

India set themselves back a lot for the sake of pride.

China was isolated from West as a Communist nation, and isolated from Soviet bloc due to bad relations, HK was a window to connect, it was smart not to close it.

The UK never intended to return Hong Kong to China. The problem is China is not Argentina. The British are very smart, they know who can bully, who cannot. So they choose to comply with the agreement

What very smart? UK has its own weak geopolitical points. UK has already unofficially joined the Quad.

So let Xi get Argentina to slowly side with China and in return promise them to help them get back the Falkland islands back from the UK. That's a long term goal of course but in 15 - 25 years I could see China obtaining the strength to punish the UK by handing the islands back to Argentina

That never happened. Despite its political hostility, the benefits from dealing with Great Britain outweighed the benefits that Argentian brought to China. China can learn a lot from the UK. A good enemy is more important than a bad friend. The relationship is both cooperation and competition, both sides are progressive.

Lol people still believe that the UK - China has benefits on cooperation.

So UK just declared China is breaching an international agreement and on the G7 meeting which the UK wanted to change it to D10 (alliance of democracies - 10 Democratic countries) it inserted into the releases statement the following
“We also call on China and the Hong Kong authorities to restore confidence in Hong Kong’s political institutions and end the unwarranted oppression of those who promote democratic values and the defence of rights and freedoms,” it stated.

And lets not forget that some small parts of the UK defence review said it wanted to focus on the Indo-Pacific ("rules based order" "free trade" bla bla) and it would explore overseas basing of UK naval assets in Australia, Japan or Singapore.
Very cooperative UK and sure is a neutral country, right?...

Now I am not saying that diplomatic contact must be cut off but in the next 10 years Xi should go and make a deal with Argentina for dealing with these small Taiwan-style islands.

However the best part comes tomorrow when the full defence review from UK is released. It is going to be fun watching all these people thinking that the UK is neutral. As I said UK has unofficially joined the Quad.

The UK is on it way down down, and sooner or later, they are going to feel the pain, in a world where the UK is no longer got any say in the world anymore.

Yeah, I like to see how the UK is going to pressure Russia and China in the future and also, if the USA really does collapse from all the bubbles bursting, the Quad is going to be history.
