?? what does 10.1 have to do with HK

?

Because it is Chinese national day. And these thugs do not see themselves as Chinese. So instead of celebrating the national day (almost every country have one) they want to use the day to 'protests'. Basically any excuse to riot again.

One thing very strange about that poster.
If I am not mistaken, it uses simplified "We" instead of traditional....

You would be wrong. Period.

That Canada is a large country?

That she has friends in Canada, or that her family can visit her?

All your paragraphs below regarding bail are equally pointless because even if 100% of people have the opportunity for bail, does not mean they can put up the bond which was my point.

I showed you figures from the Canadian government that said 66% of people were released at their bail hearings. The text I quoted couldn't have been clearer. Do you need me to explain it again?

Futhermore, although I have not witnessed it first hand, my family has close family friends who have gone to the hilly regions of Sichuan to help Yi minority people. This is heartbreaking poverty. Conditions that are simply non-existent in the West, you can't even make a comparison.

So your family's friends told them about the reality of poverty in China, that it's pretty harsh? In that case, maybe the CCP's figures on poverty reduction aren't all that accurate? Like when Jiangsu said just 17 people were living below the poverty line?

You fail to strongly address that. Most people are not getting exit bans, and poorer people are more concerned with just living. So yes, you are wrong.

Yes, most people don't have exit bans - because they're not of interest to the CCP. But the more dissatisfied one becomes with the CCP and expresses their views, the likelihood of an exit ban increases. What you're suggesting is that if someone doesn't like the CCP, they have to leave immediately and that it's their own fault if they express their opinions in public and are then stopped from leaving. That doesn't seem equitable - shouldn't Chinese people be allowed to criticise their own government in public without fear of reprisal?

Political rights usually take a back seat to economic development, this is just history.

I'm not sure there's any evidence to support that. Japan's economic miracle came about when it had become a multi-party democracy and after its cities had been levelled from Allied bombing. West Germany's economic growth also came about when it was a democracy after the devasation of WWII, whilst East Germany suffered under Communism.

Economic growth can happen under an autocratic system, but it can also happen in countries with good political rights. Sometimes those rights help economic development by reducing corruption.

Poverty alleviation is a ongoing action.

I wouldn't disagree with that. How exactly is that relevant to a discussion of poverty today in mainland China and Hong Kong? Does that mean you'd agree with potential arguments that any imminent declaration by Xi that poverty in China had been wiped out would be incorrect?

Second, I specifically said "widespread". Are going to try to tell me that literacy rates have not improved in mainland China under the CCP?

I didn't mention literacy rates once. But given the CCP has been running China for 70 years I would have hoped literacy would have improved by now. For one reason or another literacy seems easier to address than poverty. Countries like Peru, the Philippines and others have literacy rates similar to China's, and I expect you would say they're no wealthier than China.

It was in the 70's that the British-controlled government took concrete steps to improve the education system in HK. I did not imply or attribute this to CCP.

Fair enough.

Yes you're right. But that might not be so un-normal. I've seen a mixture of traditional and simplified in one place. Heck. Even my mother mixed the two, as I found an old photo of my mum send to my dad many years ago. On the back, it basically to my dear husband, picture of our children in front .... etc. And it wasn't until someone else pointed out to me, it contain simplified Chinese. It just goes to show the writer can subconsciously write it. And the readers can subconsciously read it without thinking too much about it. For example I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it.

By the way. DON'T BITE. If you get my drift.

Anyway here's a poster from the thugs regarding tomorrow. Oct 1st. National day. The caption says, no national day celebration, only national day injury.

Is there no end to their madness.

Guys this is very serious. You can't read Chinese so you have no idea what it is saying. They are encouraging "martyrs" to self-immolate as political protest in one of the most populated and foreigner-filled places in Hong Kong. I'd imagine that there will be a massive international media gathering at where they will self-immolate. They wanna stir up shit and if they go through with this this will 100% be on global headlines for the next several days. All Western media will be broadcasting the self-immolation of HK "martyrs of freedom" to a shocked Western audience. This will be such a shitshow that the war of Azerbaijan and Armenia will pale in comparison. This will be in circulation for the next several months and I guarantee that by then the Western Media will have this incident hammered into everyone's minds already (especially the minds of Europeans and Americans). Not only will this be a nuclear disaster for Chinese PR, in the future 10/1 will also be forever tainted with this incident. Imagine the world remembering 10/1 as the day when HK "freedom fighters" committing self-immolation and "China's 2nd 6/4". Imagine in the future whenever 10/1 arrives the world is reminded of this incident EVERY SINGLE YEAR by Western media. Imagine in the future where Chinese diasporas in the are West cannot celebrate 10/1 in peace because Westerners will always tell them that "HK teens self-immolated and it is a day of shame". Imagine in the future where 10/1 there are protests and memorials around the world where people "commemorate and stand in solidarity with HK freedom martyrs". This must be stopped at all costs. And I repeat AT ALL COSTS.

I encourage them all to self-immolate. Those without the courage to do so remain silent in shame forever. I've wanted to dump a Molotov made with a 1,000 gallon liquid waste receptacle on a crowd of them from the roof of a building 30 floors up since the first day I saw them. I don't care what the West says; that will give this day an extra celebratory reason. Perhaps the tradition of eating BBQ pork on 10/1 would then be appropriate... only because BBQ cockroach couldn't possibly catch on... :p

Too bad. These worthless punks don't have it in them. They all want someone else to do it.

You are taking the words too literally. What they are describing is symbolic.
