Read up this database from the Washington Post to learn how the police in The Shining City on a Hill works:

An 18 year old man (teenager according to the definition by the Western media on the shooting of the moron in HK) was holding a small knife on an empty streetcar. A cop got on the car and shot him six times. The court ruled the first three shot was justified but the last three (shot at his corpse on the floor) was overkill. The cop was convicted of guilty of attempted murder.

In North America, cops are free to kill if they feel their lives are threatened

Not only in North America. In Europe too. Remenber Liu Shaoyo in Paris 2017? He was killed in his home by the french Police.

My post was a direct response to the OP's attempt to use this man's beating to push a certain political agenda with unsupported claims. I find it interesting that you'd see my point as derailing the narrative when the original post had just as much political flavor as mine.

As I've stated, everybody on this forum feels sympathetic towards the taxi driver and is more or less shocked at what transpired in the video.

That is what you wrote.

"There are rumors from witnesses, although not necessarily true, that the driver was speaking Mandarin and was cussing the protesters after ramming into them. Hopefully it wasn't another Charlottesville incident."

Do you think it is ironic that you would accuse me of pushing a certain political agenda with unsupported claims but at the time you made an even more impartial claims to push your political agenda.

The HK police called this incident as an accident as of now. So stop accusing me of pushing a certain political agenda with unsupported claims. If you have evidence to the contrary, then I am happy to be corrected.

My take on the taxi-driver incident:
1. He might have been a mainlander/ mandarinspeaker. But he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and was heckled by the mob. The rioters are aware of the Pro-Beijing stance of many taxi drivers (who may be mainland native) so it is quite logical that they saw the enemy in this driver.
2. A taxi car is the livelihood of the taxi-driver. It is his bread and livelihood. The rioters may have started attacking it/ there was a chance of damage. Anyway, he lost his calm and decided to scurry back. He might have got his foot wrong at the pedals even. Anyway, I don't think it was deliberate. The vehicle didn't have the speed and it was executing a turn as if it was a desperate attempt to flee.
3. It isn't Charlottesville. But there is a high chance that this incident could be portrayed as one to further incite the protestors. A charlottsville type attacker would have only one thing in mind - inflict maximum damage/ hurt on the crowd. He would need to have his foot shoved hard down on the accelerator and make sure that he keeps the steering wheel steady and straight so that the vehicle may plough through the crowd. Sorta like Billiards.
4. Rioters killing the individual/ hurting the individual is an entirely different matter. That is not self-defence ; it is street justice and mob-rule.
5. I think that @SinoSoldier has some valid points regarding Steve Bannon and his comments. As much as the american MSM may potray Brietbart as a fringe media, the reality is that Brietbart is NOT a fringe media but rather a very big outlet of news source for a very large demography within United States. ( non-hispanic white , middle aged , pro NRA, pro-Military, Reagan -Trump Republican males). So Bannon - even if considered an exile and a nuisance - is NOT one to be discounted completely for either his words or his stance regarding any Issue. Steve Bannon is like the Tucker Carlson of Fox News which caters to a bigger demographic that is center right to Far right (unlike Brietbart which is Far to extreme right). Steve Bannon is quite the powerful voice and his views are taken seriously by a large demography. A demography that includes the American military. The American military servicemen does NOT tune into TLC channel and humm Kumbaya. They tune into Fox News and Brietbart for "news".

CONFIRMATION BIAS is a big thing folks. CONFIRMATION BIAS.

I r

It's been reported on live Taiwan news that he died. Need more confirmation on this though.

If true, this would mark the first casualty in the HK riots.
I read the same thing by a Facebook poster who responded to a Sydney Morning Herald reporter’s rant about the violence in HK by the Police and their handlers. If true, I sincerely hope the people involved would be hunted down no matter how long it takes and charged with murder.

My question was rhetorical. If SDF is so inclined to remain impartial to outlets like the Global Times or sometimes CCTV, which very clearly has a pro-Beijing spin to their content, issuing a warning when using sources from the other side shouldn't be needed. No need to let users know what the OP thinks is biased; let the readers judge for themselves.

You are entitled to post videos how you wish, however in the future I will continue to do my part as a fellow forum goer to flag videos from sources that much of our userbase would likely consider questionable.

I do not believe we should enable a trend in which a NTDTV or other FLG affiliated media outlet is posted here without an explicit flag or disclaimer, if not by the original poster then at least by other forum goers.

As I've stated, everybody on this forum feels sympathetic towards the taxi driver and is more or less shocked at what transpired in the video.

A taxi driver's car is inside a crowd of black shirts, who for their own reasons do not provide a pathway out for the car for some reason, in such close proximity you can barely raise your arm and will be able touch the car. Then suddenly for unknown reasons the car veers to the left through the crowd, despite previously barely moving at a slow speed as seen in the video.
The man's car gets broken into, dragged out and beaten to a bloody pulp by the black shirts until he's half dead to such a degree that we don't even know if he might be still alive.

And of all the ways you decide to commentate on this event, you write that it's a "similarly-baseless assumption that the driver plowed into those protesters purely by accident or out of fear".

To level with you -- I actually fully agree that we don't know whether he drove into the crowd veering to the left deliberately or accidentally. It very well might have been partly deliberate. Who knows? We'll need an investigation to find out. If he's still alive and able too speak he might even be able to give us his own account of it.

However considering what happened to the man, and what is documented on video -- going out of my way to point out "oh but he might have driven like that deliberately, or accidentally, we just don't know, we should let the police fully investigate before we judge"....

IMO that would have been insensitive, flirting with victim blaming, and inappropriate.
But if you think it was appropriate and proper then you are entitled to your position.

Bannon had every chance to convince people with what he has to say with the mighty position he was given. I've heard him speak and he seems paranoid, unhinged, and racist (and religion-ist?) and so I've made up my mind independently of mainstream influence. He's not on the same frequency as Devos; she's just ignorant and incapable but that doesn't matter because you implied that holding such a position in Trump's GOP is indicative of capability and it is not. The point is that you said Bannon is relevant because he represents what top US officials think but how can an ostracized man be representative of the agency that terminated him? The mainstream media represents the thoughts of the average American and that's what counts here because you're implying that Bannon is representative. On the other hand, we discredit US mainstream media on things like Hong Kong because what counts here is not what American people think, but the truth on the ground.

Good thing he's no longer in the current U.S. administration. In one interview (probably his only one that I watched) he had suggested blowing up Chinese bases in the South China Sea. He knew that would lead to war and would do it none the less.

Joe Tsai, Brooklyn Nets owner's response to Daryl Morey.
Background for non-NBA fans, he is Taiwanese-born, Canadian citizenship holder, made his money as cofounder of Alibaba with Jack Ma.

I think his thoughts well articulate the average Overseas Chinese with an understanding of China.

He doesn't quite capture the sadness of those with ties to HK to see their hometown destroyed to the dismay of many here.

For some strange reason, Trump keeps hiring these warmongers as advisors, then then firing them when they actually, you know, warmonger. It's almost as if Trump wants to cast himself as a villain even though he's not really one.

You know what this reminds me off? Vince McMahon from WWE. Vince sets up this Evil Boss persona for the purpose of entertaining wrestling fans, and like Trump, he often makes these outrageous statements designed to get the fans riled so they will cheer a face wrestler. The only thing missing in this analogy is a face guy to counter Trump's heel.

Considering that Trump had a guest appearance on the WWE once, I wouldn't be surprised if he's applying what he learned there in the White House. Trump's behavior makes no sense when you view it in a political context, but they make a lot of sense when you view it in an entertainment context.

The whole HK color revolution and China's muted response is a wake up call to any Chinese who think China is powerful. Will the US, the current superpower, allows foreign powers to brazenly fund and incite riot in its own territory without expel diplomats? No way! Will the US allows the mobs to burn the city to ashes, attacks the law enforcement, and beat the crap out of people who disagree with them for months because it is afraid of international repercussions? No way! Will the US be completely mute on international stage? Will the US continue seeking cooperation and bilateral talk when it knew the specific country is seeking to destable its society and regime changing its government? Must be kidding. Hong Kong situation and how China handles it exposed its lack of true power. There is a long way to go. While China should hold her head high, she should not be complacent and illusional.

Don't lump Bannon up with the war mongers. Bannon is a grossly incompetent opportunist. A war mongers simply prefers to use war to solves problems. Bannon is just a demagogue that provokes mass hysteria via cheap shot sensationalism. He gets his petite little fame because the people who listen to him aren't literate in military technology and arts of warfare.

He is a bloody fool. He wants to use the US military to destroy PLA SCS bases. What kind of idiocy is that. If he has said something like "get the Vietnamese or Filipinos to blow up PLA SCS bases, and then use the USN to intervene when China retaliates", I would have granted him of having basic literacy in such matter.
