Hong-Kong Protests

A bit detail of condition set about the decision of the bail. The big question is, how could the judge enforce it? How do they know what this person so in his house? How to make sure he will not make contact to anyone under any guise? He is a traitor, that is crystal clear. Trusting his words/promise is plain stupidity. This stupid judgement was the one who allowed Ted Hui to run away.
"Lai was escorted to the High Court yesterday (23rd) and applied for bail in both cases. He was then freed on a HK$10 million bail, 3 personal guarantees amounting to HK$100,000 each. In addition, Jimmy Lai must also surrender all travel documents and must not leave Hong Kong. In addition to going to the police station and attending the court, he must also not leave the residence and report to the police station three times a week. In addition, he must also undertake that during the bail period, he shall not directly or indirectly conduct any actions that can be regarded as requesting foreign or foreign institutions, organisations, or persons to impose sanctions, blockades or other hostile acts against Hong Kong or China, including not meeting officials from foreign countries. He is not allowed to accept TV, radio or online interviews, and must not publish posts, comments and messages on paper or online."

How are you going to make sure he will obey all the ruling, judge?

Which city will lead the greater bay area integration is still an open question. It could very well still be Hong Kong. However HK's chance has dropped somewhat after the protest. I doubt the Xi would put as much policy emphasis on Hongkong until it could prove its actual royalty. It would be different from before when HK oppositions manged to scuttle Shenzhen's connection to Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Mancau bridge and create its small daily quotas for vehicles with mainland plates.

Recently, there is also news that Guangdong government plans to make Guangzhou a more internationalized city. This development could mean future competitions for Hongkong down the road.

As for new policies, Shenzhen government just opened a few civil servant positions exclusive to Hongkongers. However, the response to this development is mostly negative on Chinese social media with many emphasizing that they should be carefully screened for political reliability. I think the central government shouldn't be seen as too weak and accommodating to Hkers after the protest especially possible policies like extra-territorial rights in free trade zones for HK in Guangdong. It would be a public disaster for CCP if HK was granted in effect mini colonies in mainland. After all, mainland Chinese are CCP"s most reliable supporters.【/quote】
Relevant points. However, I just want to emphasize at the moment the central government still thinks some preferential policies are good for integration.

In terms of universities, admissions should be fair and as stringent as possible. Any good educational intuitions shouldn't be lower its standards for anyone. And I doubt HK government provides grants to mainland students who score below HK's own admission standards.【/quote】
I think HK government and universities rely upon China college entrance exam scores and school grades to determine grants and admission. Beside, i believe there was an announcement a few months ago to eliminate any extra points for college entrance exam for taiwanese and Hkers who go to high schools in mainland in the near future.

As for others, unless china has toelf or sat to determine eligibility and qualification, the system isn't going to be fair especially for students from Africa and South Asia that have special privilege. Universities should also stop providing better living standard and benefits to foreign students.

National security law is still be enforced under Hong Kong judges chosen by the Chief executive. Since we all know many HK judges have foreign citizenships or green cards, their reliability is still suspect. Not to mention numerous bails were granted to protest leaders who eventually escaped. Also HK chief executive appointed a few foreign judges even after the protest. Since HK recognizes dual citizenship, I am not aware of any legislation preventing dual nationals to serve as civil servant in HK. In other words, there are still rooms for anti china forces to maneuver.【/quote】
If the judges behave, then no need of a major reform. Since judges don't rule according to the laws, then China needs to enact reform for the judicial system.

Except Chief justice and top executives at the executive branch, dual nationals can serve in most positions. Although there are pressure to give up dual citizenship for high government position.
SCMP did report rumors that Chinese people's congress is considering the reform of HK's legislative council and removing some opposition seats. I sincerely hope this will happen as it will be another step for PRC to take back control and to choke off anti-china forces in HK. And I agree with you that the current HK generation is a lost cause.

You guys can check out my article on how Hong Kong Protests pf 2019 was a mistake for the pro-demoracy activists. I have tried to articulate the key mistakes and miscalculations by the protesters.

Yes, all very well about the key mistakes. But your premise and direction leads readers in believing that CCP china is an "Evil regime" with you mentioning Tiananmen square, Xinjian etc.

"The process starts with National security law". No! the process started well before that.

And with quotes like:

"bought fear and anxiety"

"This is the CCP that did not just violently put down separatist tendencies in Tibet and Xinjiang, they are now striving to uproot the root cause of any separatism by engineering a systematic assimilation and death of any separate identity for Tibetans and Uyghurs. The CCP has shown time and time again that they are ruthless"

So I'm a bit confused. You seem to believe all the BS from the western MSM.

The only thing you got right is the mistakes, really the naivety of the rioters, in believing they are more important to the western nations then they actually are. in the end, all western nations did was used them for their own propaganda, and once used, just like a used condom got discarded double quick. and they now they are very much on their own.

The most important root cause of the protest is the HKers’ superiority complex over mainlanders (my family experienced it for many years). If you look at the TVB dramas from the 70s and 80s, quite a number of them like 京华春梦,霍元甲,陈真are very patriotic. 大地恩情 had some patriotic elements as well. However, the new generations have lost their economic edge over their mainland brethren slowly in the last 30 years. One can tell the progressive desperation by Facebook postings. One of my buddies cross posted lots of articles on bad behaviour of Chinese tourists over ten years ago. That changed into laughing at mainlander calling China a strong country. Now it’s about democrazy

You beat me to it. I was thinking about writing some refutation against the piece, but it's wrong in so many ways. You've captured the very essential parts. The foundational assumptions of the article is wrong.

Haven't done yet in HK, now Jimmy Lai has new problem in US. At 73yo, not hard to see this guy will rot in jail.

".. was also involved in a scandal involving fraud campaign to smear Biden during the U.S. presidential election."
"Lai later admitted that his ex-assistant Mark Simon was involved, and the money used for the campaign was provided by Lai’s company. "

This is getting better and better. Oh how the West that talked big about accepting the BNO etc. Won't even take in their "heros" that they portrayed last year after behind shot by the police.

More discarded condoms regretting their actions. The four idiots begging US for asylum in Oct this year. One of them turned out to be the idiot that got shot by police in the chest.

None of this appears in your regular daily mail's. I wonder why?

One of the four Hong Kong activists who were turned away when they sought refuge in the US consulate in October has revealed to the Post that he was the teenager who was shot in the chest by a police officer during last year’s protest violence

Tsang Chi-kin, 19, described the rejection as plunging him “from heaven to hell” as he recounted how he had sought to flee Hong Kong, and his fears of being prosecuted under the national security law imposed on the city by Beijing.

The Form Six student said that since being turned away, he had been living the life of a recluse.

“Having sought help from the US consulate, I can now be charged with collusion with foreign forces under the national security law,” Tsang recently said via video link from an undisclosed location.
