Hong-Kong Protests

It's amazing no one hasn't been killed yet. I don't expect PAP intervention unless martial law is declared which will happen if it turns into a full blown rioting or if an officer is killed.

The sad thing is what will happen afterwards. HK will no longer be the financial hub it once was especially to foreign companies. These protest have damage that aspect of the city. It will longer be the regional HQ to many companies.

Singapore is one the biggest winner from all this. Shanghai the other.

If powers hostile to China are committed to trade de-coupling anyways then it's better that China gets a cleaner Hong Kong after all this and Hong Kong gets a boot in the butt to reinvent itself and to integrate with the rest of China, sometimes creative destruction is needed, the status quo isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

As am I. Beijing I can understand, as they are trying to respect 1C2S. It is the HK government that is unbelievable, allowing such violence to go unchecked for so long. WTF is Carrie Lam thinking???

I think there is only one explanation for this inaction: the HK government is completely ineffectual. Look at the judges who are releasing insurgents as quickly as HKPF can arrest them. HK is still a British colony, it is just Chinese in name.

Again, the Hong Kong judicial system is stacked with Western trained judges to operate in a British Common Law environment, great for handling commerce with the West, not so great for handling politically motivated crimes especially those with Western sponsors.

I share the same feeling but I trust the Beijing government has a plan far greater than what I could imagine. This will end in China's victory; there is no other way.

What I'm perplexed by is how the Hong Kong police have all remained disciplined, following orders and abiding by protocol. You would assume that when you come under attack with petrol bombs and bricks, at least some of them would lose it in the heat of the moment and empty at least one entire clip into the rioter crowd in rage. I know for sure that if someone attacked me like that and I had a gun, I'd see nothing but red and go straight for the head-shot. I really don't understand how there hasn't been a single incident of a policeman using his gun to kill his attacker.

It speaks to the discipline of the frontline Hong Kong police officer, they deserve the most credit for the eventual win.

Look at this pathetic little guy, crying out for journalist to save him. I like the reply from the police. "stop acting"! Then proceed to take his mask off.

And once it was off. He didn't look so big then. In fact, he looked freighten and full of regrets. So brave smashing things up! Lol

It's all an act with the rioters for pity points when their propaganda spins any video/imagery/audio. I would translate what the police officer said as "stop pretending" in response to the arrested rioter yelling "save my life", a Cantonese term for when someone is in mortal danger.

Today is the 1st day back to school for the primary and junior school children.

See how easily hatred can be passed down from one generation to the next. (My previous post about Chinese loosing everthing to CCP in the 1950s)!

It's really sad. When I was that age, I remember we all look forward to going back to school to see our friends again. But instead, these children will be met with divisions and chioce of which side they going to take.

There was an article I was reading that one of the school children was picked upon because his brother was a policeman.

And too make it worse, the teacher did nothing about it because she is "on the other side"!

Good for the students and teachers who ignored the boycott call. It shows that the protesters and rioters are far from being the majority of Hong Kong people.

They are afraid to go to court? Why do they believe they will go to court? They are scared of a court that won't let them use loopholes to escape? LOL What kind of preemptive criminal strategy is this? Why am I not afraid that the CCP will arrest me and find me guilty of anything? Why are all my friends not worried about that? Nothing to hide, nothing to fear. That's why.

This agitation was started by the British when they annexed Hong Kong. Hong Kong should be like every other Chinese city, no difference at all.

Your courts' inefficiencies are your example to me for why democracy is good? Democracy is good because it's been 3 years and you can't get a train project started while China can build a train station and lay its tracks in 6 hours? Hey man, don't go into marketing. That is the least convincing sales pitch I've ever heard. And India is the last country you should be using as an example of democracy. India and China have roughly the same population, our peoples share the same values of wealth through hard work and education, we started at roughly the same point (India was actually higher after WWII at the time the CCP was founded), and today, there is nothing in India that can even start to compare to China. Actually, I have high regards for Indians because in the US, Indians are one of the very very few groups of people who can compete against the Chinese in the STEM subjects, but when our countries compete, India cannot even make it to the same arena. Why? Because the British left you with democracy and it poisoned you everyday even now. China rejected it, made our own system, and we are vaunted as the greatest economic miracle in human history.

I wouldn't blame democracy. The worst things colonialism left India are the same things they left Hong Kong: locals ignorant of their own heritage and history, hatred of their own independent development based on the above, prejudice against other locals based on the above, colonial country/culture/people worship (in this case British/Western), and ultimately what colonialists want - locals traitorous against their own country to the benefit of the colonial country/culture/people.

They are demanding 5 demands. And one of which is she withdraw the bill. Apparently they refused to accept it is withdrawn when she said the bill is dead.
I guess it just the wording but for the life of me I can’t understand why saying the bill is dead is any different from saying it’s withdrawn.

Yes and that's all the media interpreting. They're so desperate they're seeing things that aren't there. They're misinterpreting things that don't work with their narrative. It's like Trump's trade team claiming that the Chinese leading trade negotiator wants to make a deal but Beijing is preventing him. Well he doesn't have that authority to okay deals on his own. It's just Trump's minions trying to lie that there's discontent among the ranks in the Beijing so America support your President because the Chinese side is in disarray while Trump's team is solid because they all agree meaning they're right.

It's a legislative technicality that has no meaning either way as something substantially the same can be reintroduced even if the original proposal is withdrawn. The complaint itself is a technicality so that the anti-government crowd can hype up mistrust of the government to rile people up.

I think that kid is on drugs. Look at how after he gets unmasked his head twitches like a chicken. Maybe they're all on drugs because they truly act like wild animals. Maybe it's intentional.

Great catch. I didn’t even notice earlier until you said it I went back and rewatch the video and yep, toward the end of that video his head did shake like twice suddenly.

Coincidently, last night I was also watching a video on youtube describing a person experience pretending to be protestor to get and know how these protestors cope with each another and that person mentioned using drugs as mental and pain killer to get them hooked. Another interesting note is that those violent mob majorities are surname Yuan/Yuen or Nguyen - the biggest surname in Vietnam. These kids are possibly Vietnamese descendants during the Vietnam War refugees crisis or ethnic Chinese Vietnamese, since so many are surnames Yuan/Yuen/Nguen, the former seemed more likely, hence they don’t identify themselves as Chinese and seek HK Independence.

Here is the link to that video:

There is also afull transcript on that whole video at the bottom before the comment section if you don’t want to watch the video. I couldn’t post the transcript here because I’m currently on mobile.
