but this line stood out:

What's to stop China from using big data and 5G connectivity to ensure that no rare earths make their way into Lockheed Plants?

China can definitely make the case by sanctioning organisations that defame China like raytheon which give money to ASPI; this could be enabled by Big Data to track every single element shipped of Rare Earths.

Everyone is just playing there cards strategically or what they think is strategic. As much as some members/x members chest thump , China is still majorly constrained and in a weaker position at this moment. Better to eat your pride , grit yourr teeth for the next 5 years than suffer a tech famine that delays you by 20 years.

I have a feeling that China has yet to reveal its true arsenal while the USA is showing off in every sense of the word. I guess this is a waiting game when one side is taking their time to make the right moves while the other has lots of resources that is being mismanaged to the extreme while their supposed standing in the world is be flaunted nonstop.

It is not about philosophical cultural differences.

It is all about the facts on the ground.
  • biggest manufacturing base in the world
  • largest trading nation in the world
  • biggest creditor nation and who is biggest debtor nation
  • fastest growing large economy in the world
  • first to implement 5G network for next industrial revolution
  • no nation graduates more STEM people
  • still expanding international footprint with BRI, RCEP, etc ...
There is probably a lot more, but that would be too long a list.

Then to top it all off, that other nation is printing money.

You are polite brother, and you give other people face.

The way the Chinese leadership sees it, and they are correct in my estimation, the Americans are on the back foot and shrinking. The Americans cannot speak from a position of strength anymore.

China has to adjust to that new reality. Whether the Americans will adjust to that new reality, that essentially is their problem.

If the Chinese catch up with the semiconductors, there is no area left in the industrial world that the United States has a real advantage. Chang sifu said they were only 1 generation behind.

If semiconductors was a horse race, 1 generation behind is only 1 length behind the front-runner.

Semiconductors is the last bastions of American industrial leadership. Lose that, and the Americans will only have world leading cultural products, such as lawyers, TV shows, and Black Lives Matter.

In my experience, the republican/gop are creating the fake news, well meaning liberals tend to fall for the fake news. At least from the non politician side.
The Republicans have fox news creating faked news for them. The liberals have cnn, which is more polite, but still biased and China bashing.

@horse bro thanks for the kind words and no offense to @daifo, I appreciate his post, sometimes a dose of reality is needed. What I want to point out is that most of the news are coming from the western media which haven't had a clue about Chinese development or the author had no expertise or knowledge to write one. And I stated before we are lucky that we had esteem members such as @WTAN ,@Oldschool @foofy and others to inform us to what is actual happening on the ground. China had a lot of catching up to do but as @BoraTas had mentioned it is achievable cause physic is the same whether your in China nor in the US, what is needed is to galvanize the nation, focus, work hard and if failed , learned from it and do it again. Its up to us to salvage the situation. The silence and calmness from the Chinese incite confidence, they had a plan , they're implementing it and hopefully see result within the end of the year. And I learn to temper my expectation but knowing China it always surprises you and I bet it will ;) .
