Tactical nukes in Asia could be used by China to hit aircraft carrier groups or US airbases.
I wouldn't be surprised if the DF-41 used smaller warheads than prior Chinese nuclear missiles.
China has been going towards MIRVs in their most recent delivery vehicles.
That's just asking to be nuked back by the US. Doesn't matter if it's nowhere near the US mainland or just simply some aircraft carriers. Any nuclear attack is asking for some returned service.

Why would China need to use nuclear warheads when it has AShBMs operational?

Besides, as tests have shown, nukes are spectacularly ineffective against warships.

MIVR warheads do push down yield, but those are still strategic level weapons still, and China will be aiming for as much yield as they can with the smaller warhead limitations.

Anyways, back on topic. Was just listening in to Biden’s inauguration speech. Does he always sound so, not all there?

Not at all. That didn't happen by Japan. If that made sense, the US should have been nuked back long time ago.

Any sign of "some returned service" by the US is just asking to be nuked back again on the entire US mainland. No one else left to ask.

In some respects, Chinese lack of tactical nukes works as a better deterrent than having them. Nobody in the American military can be stupid enough to actually think any nuclear attack on Chinese soil or forces would be met by anything other than a nuclear response. Do you want to shoot off a kiloton grade tactical nuke only to eat a megaton grade strategic one in response?
Waiting for Xi's speech

A nuke is a nuke is a nuke...

Just to add, all the hype and threats about American nuclear superiority against China or threats of using nukes against China is just psychOps bluff.

The goal is to try to trick China into wasting money on more nukes.

America has already bought and paid for their vast nuclear stockpiles, and are wasting billions every year on security and maintenance, with a potentially astronomical modernisation cost not far down the road.

The only realistic way they can get any value from all that spending is if they can leverage that to bluff China into also wasting more money on more nukes.

Having nukes is always important. America may miscalculate if it thinks it can get away with the doctrine of "damage mitigation". China doesn't need tactical nukes but it does need to have enough nukes to truly do MAD, at least over 1,000.
