Discussing Biden's Potential China Policy

Sometimes I wonder, is this a Chinese thing? Why dies China be so unfortunate to have so many Hanjians in their ranks? And the West BS trying to make Chen more creditable calling him a blind "lawyer" activist. The fact he's not a qualified lawyer is irrelevant.
I have a theory
1) US CIA funding goes most towards the most rabid and vocal hanjian; it would be like China giving state funding to the Black Panthers of NFAC or militant BLMs.
2) Millenia of Chinese civilisation have bred Chinese people to be more loyal to their parents so if their parents become brainwashed into cults like FLG or evangelical christianity which hates China, these kids will also grow up to similarly hate China.
Picture this, you're a chinese student coming to australia or america for the first time, you're an only child so you feel lonely when you first get there but there are christian groups comprised of Bob Fu type chinese christians who welcome you, invite you over for parties and make you feel like you have friends. And then they start having talks and sermons about the evils of the Chinese communist party. It doesn't take long for such chinese students to become radicalised. All the more so when you have american media acting as supplementary forces for that type of propaganda.

Big Update 2.0!

Biden has selected Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary to replace Steve Mnuchin. Yellen is an Obama-era veteran and former Chair of Federal Reserve. She will be heavily involved in future trade war negotiations with Honorable Liu He by virtue of her role.

  • Janet Yellen does not believe there are unfair trade practices in China, China is not responsible for trade deficit with US, and will likely end the trade war.
    • “I do not see unfair trade practices in China, or anywhere else in the world, as what is responsible for the US trade deficit,” said Yellen. “The US trade deficit reflects the fact that Americans spend more than we produce, and we import excess goods and services from the rest of the world to satisfy that demand.” -

  • Janet Yellen is against bi-furcation of the tech world, one lead by US, one lead by China, because it can slow and hurt technological advancement.
    • "Technologies developed in one place of the world need to be and can be applied throughout the world, and become the base for further progress of technological innovation," she said. "Losing those synergies" would be a very negative development. "I hope we will not go there," Yellen said. -

So Janet Yellen does not view China as unfair trader and is against the trade war. I am super cautious as you are all, but these are slightly good signs. Liu He should not underestimate Yellen or Biden of course, the nation's prosperity is too important.

Speaking in Hong Kong in January, Ms. Yellen said longstanding issues with Beijing that weren’t addressed by the Trump administration’s phase one trade deal, such as subsidies to state-owned enterprises and competition for new technologies with significant national-security implications, threatened to pull the world into two competing spheres. “We have very difficult issues that lie ahead,” she said.

My impression is this. Does not matter who is in charge, Trump or Biden, China already declared its strategy of duo-circulation and is daring the United States to do better and beat them.

We all know Phase One is a hollow joke that didn't address any of the core concerns mentioned by Trump at the very beginning like "systematic reform of Chinese economy" or MIC 2025 or even IP. Yellen is just stating her observation that difficult issues was not address by Phase One deal. It does not mean she will do anything about it. You quote it like it proves her motives/intentions, but it didn't prove anything, except she can point out the obvious.

Yellen is just saying Phase One is too transactional. Phase One didn't solve any of the core demands of "systematic reform of Chinese economy" or MIC 2025 or even intellectual property. It doesn't imply she will do anything about it. She just says there are difficult issues remain unresolved.

Which is none of America's beeswax

The quote from the Wall Street Journal from Yellen contradicts rather than support what she said earlier about trade.

The quote from the Wall Street Journal shows she just following the party line.

You have to take ccp's own policy inertia into account. Chinese government doesn't like to preempt problems. It's usually reactionary to threats and only like to take some half hearted actions when threats can no longer be planked over by meaningless platitudes. This is the so called two steps forward and one step back so common in Chinese political system. An example is the national security law in hongkong after almost a year of protest, still the law is subject to a hostile judiciary (western judges).

Trump's maximum pressure anti-china policy has given voice to hawks which have galvanized a number of self sufficiency policies which in my opinion should have been taken years ago. However, many these policies are damaging to established businesses' interests associated with doves. They don't really want to antagonize US, they are being forced into by trump's ruthlessness. A more political savvy president like Biden could again give voice to the doves, which in turn initiating another step back. Hence why many think Biden is worse for China.

I heard that UK are considering pulling out their judge in HK High Court

Yellen is a Democrat. She isn't a Republican, so I'm not sure what "party line" she is toeing.

That's also the reason why she is dismissive of the trade war, observing that Phase One is agriculture-focused and does not encompass core concerns of Trump administration such as state-subsidies or IP.

Saying "We have very difficult issues that lie ahead,” is a reflection of reality, even Chinese analyst say that Phase Two is more difficult to negotiate than Phase One.

Democrat or Republican is irrelevant. American party line has always been to shit on any foreign nation capable of withstanding American political, economic and military pressure. Basically, if America cannot state capture you, regime change you or invade you at will, you are an existential threat to the American way of life and must be destroyed at all costs.

While I agree with the general sentiment that both Democrats/Republicans are imperialists and want to continue world hegemony, it's disingenous to equate them as continuation of Trump-era hyper-aggression. I think Trump-era is an anomaly among Democrats/Republicans, an overly extreme expression of anti-China containment that is unlikely to continue in the future. Biden is just a different shade of containment of China, one of competition instead of adversary.

Also, China and US are very complicated states, with a lot of nuances to both.

That might be the case some 10-20 years ago.

Look at the kids coming here for school these days. The Bob Fu type are looks more "FOBBY" than the kids coming off the plane wearing Cavalli and Hugo Boss and driving GTRs. The new generation coming here mostly stick themselves and look on the older generation with a bit a loser tint.
