Discussing Biden's Potential China Policy

You mean the same Biden that said in the Democratic primaries “I would be on the phone with China making it clear: We are going to need to be in your country. You have to be open. You have to be clear. We have to know what’s going on.”... Tell me how that's different from Iraq 2003 when Biden was head of the Senate Foreign Relations committee and Congress was voting on whether to let Bush go to war over "WMDs"

That was during the Primaries. He had hot rhetoric during the debates.

Bill Clinton was a fierce China hawk in 1994 debates against Bob Dole. What happened after Clinton took office? Clinton sold radiation hardened chips, helped China get into WTO, and Most Favored Nation status.

If you follow politics, you realize Politicians lie all the time and never follow-through with their promises on getting tough on China. The average American voter has a memory of a gold-fish.

Trump, for better or for worse, actually carried through his trade rhetoric into action.

Difference is that these events have allowed China's economy to boom at the cost of American jobs and manufacturing - this is 2020 where China is a superpower that is benefiting from decades of American overconsumption which is finally coming to bite Americans in the ass, and not 1994 when China was an emerging economy

It's more nuanced than that.

US Corporations had record Profit due to Chinese imports (therefore, record Stock prices too). US Consumers had higher standards of living due to Chinese imports. For Fortune 500 companies, China is their #1 or #2 market now.

I disagree, see above. Biden thinks it's mutually beneficial for free trade.

and not 1994 when China was an emerging economy

As a Corporate democrat, Biden will continue the China trade relations as it's mutually beneficial, just as Clinton did. Biden didn't even campaign about bringing jobs back home as a core concern like Trump did, so your unusual fixation on it makes no sense.

It'll matter if Biden wants to keep the Rust Belt in the midterms and whoever runs for the Democrats in 2024. Biden didn't campaign on trade and jobs because his strategy was to use Obama's reputation to prove how much of a better candidate he is to Trump - quite smart actually, there's barely anything the people of America can say to hold him accountable for what he said on the campaign trail. But then if things don't change and continue to deteriorate, it'll make the midterms all that more interesting.

I wouldn't exactly say going forward that trade would be mutually beneficial, especially after the signing of RCEP and more importantly when they're forcing us to buy goods we don't need. Case and point - With our tech industry emerging, the queues outside Apple stores in China won't be as long as they normally are when the latest iPhone rolls out.

Just saying the Biden transition team are already talking about appointing John Kerry as environmental envoy, and one of his first missions will be to hold Beijing accountable for China's contribution to global pollution - Sino-American relations are nowhere near returning to smooth sail, especially when Biden is seemingly surrounding himself with regime change warmongering type advisors.

Sometimes I wonder, is this a Chinese thing? Why dies China be so unfortunate to have so many Hanjians in their ranks? And the West BS trying to make Chen more creditable calling him a blind "lawyer" activist. The fact he's not a qualified lawyer is irrelevant.

Chinese Dissidents Back Trump’s Claims of Election FraudSome influential activists who support the president’s policies on Beijing want to hold off on recognizing Biden as the president-elect

Activist Chen Guangcheng, who spoke at the Republican National Convention in August, has shared social-media posts alleging widespread electoral fraud.

HONG KONG—Some of China’s most influential dissidents and human-rights activists based in the U.S., who approve of the Trump administration’s tough line on Beijing, have come out in support of the president’s unsubstantiated allegations of widespread U.S. election fraud.

Blind legal activist Chen Guangcheng has tweeted prolifically claiming Mr. Trump won the election. Religious leader Bob Fu supports the allegations of attorney Sidney Powell, who has claimed “communist money” from Cuba and China rigged the election.

And Wang Dan, a leader of the 1989 student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square, has said he wants to hold off recognizing Joe Biden as president-elect and criticized the media for what he calls biased reporting.

Never said I approved of that rhetoric. If anything the CCP's record (especially in the latest Five Year Plan) shows that clean energy and the mitigation of pollution are on the forefront of the party's agenda going forward. As @plawolf said, regardless of who holds power on Capitol Hill, their agenda is to shit on any foreign nation capable of withstanding American influence. Under the Trump Administration, trade was the means of shitting on China (I can't see things improving all that much, especially with RCEP signed), and climate change will seemingly be that method under a Biden Administration. In that case it won't matter if China is the leader of global pollution, or if it is at the forefront in climate protection.

Nobody said US-China relations will be smooth sailing.

We all known Democrats/Republicans are imperialists warmongers who want world hegemony and believes in US Exceptionalism. But rather than labelling both Democrats/Republicans in overly broad strokes like "US BAD" just like Western media simplifies as "CHINA BAD", we should do more nuanced analysis of each cabinet pick's policy positions, rather relying on generalizations and campaign rhetoric. Containment comes in different shades. If I wanted my daily dose of "US BAD", I would be posting in /r/Sino, not Sinodefence.
