Until CATOBAR becomes available, naval Flankers are going to need larger surface areas (bigger wings) to generate the required lift to blast off a ski ramp on the Liaoning and Shandong - how's that impractical??

I guess you have reached the limit of your immigration hence no further replies from me

Mate I've given you a scientifically-backed answer, rather than my imagination (or immigration, whatever that means) to answer you. The lift formula is broken down into this:

Without a catapult launch, the J-15 can't reach the required speed to takeoff from the carrier. Since we can't alter air density, the only things we can change are wing shape and surface area, which is why in a nutshell the J-15 looks big - how's that impractical??

Forget about him He claim to be Phd in chemistry but he is illiterates when it come to formula. Surprising from some one who claim to have Phd

It won't be a surprise to say that once 2x Type-003s and 2+ Type-004s (so 4+ CATOBARs) comes online, PLAN might relegate both 001 and 002 to reserve/training carriers to certify student naval pilots.
The current CV-16 and CV-17 limit the full potential of the J-15; reduce fuel and weapons load config. for takeoff

I doubt Shandong will be a training CV ever, considering that they went out of their way to make modifications to the Kuznetzov design for more effecient CV operations.

I don't know if it true you seem to repeating what the western press said . We have photos with 4XYJ91 and 2 PL12 or PL8. Alternatively they can have 2 X YJ83 K and 2 X PL8 and they tested one too. So they have no issue with weapon load. For carrier operation you need long range and sufficient weapon load and that is what J 15 capable of

Kinda doubt it since pilot qualification for stobar and catobar carrier is different from take off perspective. Also, the j-35 may not be stobar compatible. Most likely, 1 of each carrier type will be held in training/reserved... maybe in a rotational basis for the conventional catobar type.
