Also, the j-35 may not be stobar compatible. Most likely, 1 of each carrier type will be held in training/reserved... maybe in a rotational basis for the conventional catobar type.

For what its worth, I suspect J-35 will be used from Liaoning and Shandong as well. There is no inherent problem with running CATOBAR-intended aircraft off wire-equipped STOBAR carriers, its why US is pitching SuperHornet to India, and for operational flexibility it would very much make sense. Just my two cents.

There isn't except there will be a small weight penalty. But given that a hypothetical 'J-35' would likely use more advanced and lightweight construction plus have more modern engines it could well be the weight penalty isn't that significant.
