Pardon.... Russia is rising now?

Russia's military has made a lot of progress in the last 10 years. However, Russia's problem has always been economics, not the military. No Russian political leader ever solved the economics problem. As a result, Russia always lacked money to build large numbers of modern tech, especially today. On the other hand, China solved this problem in dramatic fashion over the last 40 years.

Beginning for its final decline?! ... but let's stop here better.

Russia's never as weak as it seems (and never as strong). Writing them off is foolish. However, without a doubt, China is way stronger today. I would even say that China has surpassed the former USSR at its peak.

Oh yes. As of this moment, the Russians is a massive 30 ship exercise in the Baltic Sea. Not too long ago, the Russians held a massive submarine exercise with subs bridging the GIUK gap.

You don't see this kind of activity since the Cold War, and its so nice that the media is distracted with Covid and China to report such things.

Actually, Russia makes a lot of money, and by 2024 they would be the world's 7th largest economy, larger than any EU country except for Germany, and by then only two of the "G7" would be in the top 7 economies in the world. The problem is that the money is sucked by the oligarchs and Russia has great economic inequality. As such it lacks the infrastructure to build modern tech as you mentioned.

Yes, but they're still operating a lot of Cold War tech. Large exercises, but most of it with really dated equipment, especially the navy. They boast about the number of new ships they induct every year, but it's mostly cutters, patrol ships and smaller surface combatants. Don't get me wrong - I'm generally a fan of the Russian military. But I have been following it for a decade and there are many problems, as well as with their economy and industries.

Yes, there's enough money to build something worthwhile. But even if there was no corruption, Russia's economy is small and not diversified. They have also lost much of their industrial and STEM R&D capabilities, which used to be formidable.

oh please Russian naval has old fishing tugs from the 1960s

While China has Type 055 commissioned Russia is still drawing them on drawing board and looking ah wish we had one of these

Russia just has way too much pride to buy anything from China, that is the sole and only reason they aren't

it would be very good for Russia to hand over the Kuznetsov to China for a complete top to bottom refurb, upgrade and overhaul

it would come out brand new and we would have 3 very nice looking carriers of the same class doing a formation sailing

will never happen though

Asif, Russia also has a pretty oversized and extremely hungry native military-industrial complex to feed. Which is desperately dependent on national contracts - especially if we are talking about navla projects. I don't see this changing any time soon, and this time there is no Makarov or Medvedev around to push for fancy imports (see the Mistral debacle).

It is not a matter of pride or prejudice really, just plain logic. We are getting off-topic though, sorry for that.
