Has Sweden reach herd immunity yet given that this was Sweden's strategy from the beginning, Surprisingly nobody reports on this anymore. How successful was this strategy?

Hard to say from the recent peak infection but with low fatality rate.

How about South Africa where omicron started?

I think they did before and it was controversial. The Swedish death numbers per capita were abit higher than their Nordic neighbours. This was during delta wave, not sure about now.

I remember a swede guy defending his country no lockdown policy like some cult member in another forum. He would criticize anyone suggesting lockdowns are effective and if anyone showed him the data, he would start talking about density population, weather, public transport etc to side track the conversation and suggest the countries aren't comparable.

Sweden has long dropped that strategy. It is misleading to call the Swedish strategy "herd immunity". Vaccination is also to reach herd immunity. What Sweden did at the very beginning was "doing almost nothing to reach natural herd immunity". BTW, it is not Swedish invention but a British invention, or the two did it simultaneously.

Of course that strategy failed or will fail, no need to find statistic proof. It has been reported all over the world that people get infected multiple times. That means there is no long lasting immunity (longer than few months).

If you check Covid statistics from Google, there is not much difference from other Western countries in terms of both new cases and death toll. That means whatever strategy they choose earlier on makes no difference.

The Brits first talked about it when they leaked it to the media but soon backtracked and did have some measure of lockdowns and restrictions in UK. They were pitiful but they had at least tried. As far as I know Sweden basically had no lockdowns at all and let the virus rip through the population. Basically hoping their citizens act responsibly which is not a foolproof plan at all.

According to China's CDC chief expert:
Omicron is unlikely to be the last variant the world will see of this novel coronavirus, Wu said. He noted that the coronavirus could not become a flu as many have predicted, as mortality rate of the variant is higher than that of influenza. Moreover, influenza affects mainly throat, while coronavirus causes lower respiratory tract diseases, affecting lungs and other organs.
Wu said that most of the imported COVID-19 cases in China come from the US. Although the new variant was discovered in southern Africa, countries such as the US and the UK are the "amplifiers" in spreading the virus.
