In the context of the Iran International article, the term "trains" refers to both motor and trailer cars (wagons on the Wikipedia page), which would be combined to form a trainset (trains on the Wikipedia page). The term "wagons" could have been something that didn't really translate well into English, but they were probably trying to say "cars". It's most likely referring to the individual cars of an electric multiple unit rather than entire trainsets because, assuming that each trainset is 7 cars each which is the standard on most lines from what I can gather, it would mean 113 trainsets which is a lot more realistic than 791 trainsets. While Tehran Metro does operate a commuter rail service on line 5 using TM3 locomotives with bilevel cars in a 2M10T formation, I couldn't find any sources on their numbers or if they're even included in the total train/wagon count.

What you refer to as train is locomotive or the powered wagon. It is an old style metro equipment. China does not operate or produce such equipment anymore. So the 791 from China are units, some are powered, some are not. The concept of powerless "wagon" can not be used on this deal. It is not 791 powered train-head, neither 791 powerless carriages.

This is what I have been saying in my post 178, it is wrong to apply the terminology of "locomotive and wagon" on this 791 deal. It is also wrong to use the word train to refer to the train-head.

Also I must point out that the wiki page is misleading in saying "217 trains and 1514 wagons" instead of total units. If you look at any metro line you will see that all carriages are the same except one in the head and another in the tail that have driver's cabin. The motors are all under the floors and can be located anywhere along the whole train set. Metros have to travel up and down due the tunnel system, so it has to place some powered carriage in the middle. Which carriage is powered is not visible to passengers, only the operator knows. In a deal of 791 it is impossible that all of them are powerless which would demand that Chinese wagons being connected in a train set with powered unit from other vendors which may not be technical possible or create extra cost of modification instead of using Chinese powered units.
Train =/= locomotive. I didn't use the term "locomotive" anywhere. and the wagon is a separate section of the train.
The train is not made as a whole; separate sections are made, which are then combined into a train. This train may have more or fewer wagons. but they are usually the same except for the first and last. The number of these sections is 791. It does not matter whether it is the first wagon, the last wagon, or the wagon from the middle. It doesn't matter what they look like. It is important that there are 791 of them.

New FXD3D-J power car for the CR250J spotted.
Found the original higher-res images, plus a video of the power car in action. It was seen at CRRC Dalian's new factory in Lushun. This will be the first high-speed centralized power trainset to be put into operation since 2003 when the China Star train was retired.
