Chinese purchase of Su-35

Not only that but if purchasing it means giving Sukhoi the funds to complete the fighter as something at least satisfactory, it would mean letting this fighter proliferate. Of course that's all assuming it needs that Chinese purchase and funding which may or may not be the case. Certainly it makes the process faster if nothing else.

I don't think it's in China's interest to unleash another 5th gen into the world. One that they cannot control. Sure understanding it and making a purchase after others do so, or getting mlu option even further into future to learn about it and how to overcome it will be useful but I doubt plaaf will be the first customer if it ever becomes one.

Russia offer another batch of Su-35 to China. Do you think China would say "yes" in order to thank Putin for supporting its 5G?
Russia Offers China Another Batch of Su-35 Fighter Jets
Russia has offered China a second batch of Sukhoi Su-35S (NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) multirole fighter aircraft destined for service in the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS)

“We are expecting a response from China on our offer to purchase modern weapons and military equipment manufactured in Russia, including additional batches of Su-35 fighter jets,” the service said on the sidelines of the “Army-2019″ forum outside of Moscow. According to Chinese media reports, the PLAAF is considering the acquisition of additional Su-35 fighter aircraft.

I think Russia is interested in finding a partner after India dropped out. Even the publicity of China potentially interested in a specific Russian fighter could get it to sell like hot cakes. Just look at Su-27/Su-30 and Su-35.

China should just sell their J-16 and J-20 to make some money and then reinvest in its own planes.

If I were Chinese policymakers, I would accept the offer, but possibly bargain for a lower price. Firstly, Su-35s are perfect for aggressor training. The fighter could imitate not only the Su-30 series fighter jets of the Indian and Vietnamese air forces but also the F-15Js (based on F-15C, which has similar RCS compared to post-1980 Sukhoi fighters) in service with Japanese Air Self Defense Force. A squadron of 12 Su-35s, with an addition of 12 J-10Cs to imitate Taiwan's F-16s and a KJ-2000 AWACS, would be a perfect PLAAF "blue army." Then the other 36 Su-35s would be vital in engaging ROCAF fighter planes stationed at Taiwan's East Coast (underground airbases capable of withstanding initial PLARF missile strike) in times of conflict.

Also having some Russian very advanced system in PLAAF would significantly complicate your enemies, considering China has so many systems already
