Chinese purchase of Su-35

I don't like this deal one bit.
I want another squadron or two of J-20s(equipped with the uprated WS-10) to be inducted (along with announcement of progress with the J-31 (or naval fighter ).
The Su-35 can come later. Russians are quite sassy when it comes to China buying their weapons. China needs to distance itself away from foreign machines and invest in its own.
Su-35 doesn't have an Aesa radar. Athough the Russians are good with PESA radars, I think it is time that Russia accepted defeat in the AESA race and let China do its thing. No matter how powerful Su-35 is purported to be, China ought to think thrice before making the purchase.
China ought to decouple from Russian defence doctrines and machines and cooperate with Russia in Energy Security,Food Security , Telecommunications and Water Security.

Only if I could voice my opinion in the Chinese politburo.
It would be "engines, engines and more engines".

you seem to be suggesting that Chines politicians do not realize they need advanced engines for the J-20 etc, that's rather ludicris?? no??

They may not. Politicians are not supposed to know the intricacies of Military technologies. They'd have advisors who'd suggest the way forward. Politicians might not be privy to all activities within the MIC. China certainly has the capital to flush into the engine development drain and chinese politicians ought to be convinced to do so.
Vested Interests might be in operation within the chain of command who is eying a particular goal. That goal might not be sabotage or something that'd directly pose a national security risk - it can be something more simple, personal even - like a position within the company, financial theft. Corruption ??

Since the J-11D is a no show as of this moment, I can see why more Su-35 might be an option. You get J-20, J-16, and J-10C in the top tier but there is quite a gap after that. Right now, there is no info on potential J-11B upgrades (Upgrades to J-11D standard like the J-8D/H were upgraded to the J-8F standard) or newly built J-11B with J-11D avionics. Su-35 is by no means a crappy plane. It'll probably run circles around the J-11B. J-16 is the most advanced flanker in the PLAAF in terms of avionics but the Su-35 has its advantages.

Your average politician won't be making key military decisions. With the exception of the President Xi Jinping, rest of the top members in the CMC are heads of the armed forces who would know a lot more than you or I.

This. The J-11D is delayed. They already have the Su-35 in service. So they already have a logistics and maintenance chain in place. They probably have maxed out their Flanker production facility at Shenyang just building J-16s. Which are a lot more required because the JH-17s are literally falling out of the sky. After the J-16s are done they need to build J-15s for the carrier.

So while the deal is, I think, unlikely it is certainly quite possible. I think China should just skip the J-11D and go straight into J-20 mass production.
You have a point about upgrade packages for the existing J-11s and Su-27s though. It would probably be a waste not to do them.

Agree, but Russia need China's help and anyway SU-35 is very very good fighter.

The stronger Russia (not too strong), the better for China

China also needs Russia's help. If not for a series of historical blowbacks and unforced errors the US would have wiped the floor with both these countries already and it still can with greater difficulty, not to say it is necessary nor good for humanity. A balanced international security backdrop is best for world development.
