STOP trolling each other and having such back and forths for pages. Stop disussing nuclear war and making labels of Hitler...both of which are against SD rules.

These trolling one another back and forth and the other will lead to immediate suspensinss...so stop it, and ignore the people who drag you into it.

Simple solutions.

Reality check for Chinese fans of the Trump presidency.

I doubt there are many real fans of Trump in China. If one has to use the word fan, it is "fan". These "fans" are seeing Trump to be more damaging to US' long term prosperity than Clinton. That is how these "fans" prefer Trump to be the president over Clinton. And I have to say, there are lots of "fans" in this definition.

At least prior to the Trump-Tsai call there were numerous first hand reports where members of the Chinese public believed Trump will be the US president who is better for China due to the fact that he is a businessman and would value mutual trade above all else. Obviously these people were either ignorant or dismissive of his many hostile statements about China during his campaign, I wonder if these people feel the same way or are similarly ignorant or dismissive about that continued hostility at this point.

While hawkish views as represented by the likes of Navarro and Babbage may be getting some traction with Trump, a Republican Congress and Senate may not be of the same inclination and thus impede any unwanted hawkish moves.

"Wei Ji" Chinese characters mean when there is "Crisis there is Opportunity". Chinese, Asians and level headed Americans & Europeans & others will realise that we cannot be isolationists and disregard an economic inter-dependent world. There will always be give and take & compromises when negotiating for trade, investments etc. No brashness or bullying in negotiations, as there will be no winners in such situations. We will wait for moves and developments in 2017 and the coming years, hopefully for the economic good of all nations. Happy New Year to all and their families.

If Navarro's policies turn out to be worse for the US in the view of the fresh swamp, his tenure may not survive. It is still early days, but the SSE next year will likely be subdued, hugging low. Probably just for a year.

wouldn't worry over who Trump picks as a part of his administration. That's what they want. Because China's economy is not as developed as the US's, it's actually the opposite of what they think would happen. The US would experience a cascade of events that would be all bad. Because China's economy is not as developed, it's less of a cascade. And since the US has been working to prevent actual Chinese products to be sold in the US, a dependency on the US has never really been established. China's stock market plunge in recent years had no effect on consumer spending. US corporations that outsource expect huge profits to keep their stock value high. A disruption in trade sends those profits falling and thus hit their stock value. When the US stock market plunges people lose their retirement funds because it's been invested in the stock market. They don't do that in China. The US is only about 20% of China's exports. And most of those exports are foreign corporations that outsource to China. And let's not forget it's not just US corporations. It's other non-American corporations shipping their products straight to the US from China so they'll be hit by any trade war. How fast do you think they can setup in another country if they can survive the shock? Not fast enough. You know how Trump says he doesn't want to giveaway his plans in order to surprise his enemies so they're unprepared? Spring this surprised and it hurts the US economy even more.

I don't think it's quite as confrontational as that. A lot of Chinese were 'fans' of Trump for the same reason a lot of Americans were - he wasn't Clinton.

People in China remember all the hostility and the sabotage of the SCS agreement between China and the other claimant that she was personally so instrumental in causing.

There was also the hope that if Trump was the true outsider as he claimed (I know nothing he says could be taken at face value) that he would take a much more reasonable and pragmatic approach to relations with China, instead of the bias and idealogically driven crusade Clinton seemed hell bent on pursuing.

And lastly, even if the worst were to happen, China would have a far better chance against a divided US ruled over by a half-sane tweeter ranting man-child instead of the cold and calculating Clinton ice queen.

That's what universal suffrage can do to a nation. Two weak and incompetent choices for the people to be divided over. Sigh...we need some strong CPC leadership type with American Characteristics in the White House as well as in Capitol Hill.

Here's what CHina needs to do in order in minimize the damages done in a trade war with US.

CHina runs $280 billion surplus with US. If US and China at trade war then China would lose the $280 surplus.

China can recoup $280 billion lost from US trade war by enlarge trade war against US allies.

Taiwan has trade surplus of $90 billion with China
South Korea has trade surplus of $75 billion on China.
Japan has trade surplus of $82 billion on China
Australia has trade surplus of $35 billion on China

Once China US trade war started, China should also start the trade war against US allies of Taiwan, South korea, Japan and Australia.

$280-$90-$75-$82-$35=surplus of $2 Billion.
