China's largest refining and chemical integration project in Lianyungang City, east China's Jiangsu Province, was put into production on Monday.

The project, undertaken by Shenghong Petrochemical with an investment of 67.7 billion yuan (about 10 billion U.S. dollars), has an annual processing capacity of 16 million tonnes of crude oil.

Shenghong is one of the three major private petrochemical refining projects supported by the State Council, said Ma Shiguang, mayor of Lianyungang City, adding that the operation of the project will be of great significance in accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure in the city.

The project broke China's records in a number of technological fields and boasts the largest atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit.

The project is expected to play a key role in bridging crude oil refining and high-end chemical engineering, and raising the localization rate of crucial chemical products.

Lianyungang is one of the country's major petrochemical industrial bases.

I wonder which type of crude oil this refinery processes.

The total output value of China's satellite navigation and location services industry reached 469 billion yuan (about 69.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2021, up 16.3 percent from the previous year, according to an industry white paper released on Wednesday.

China remained the top source of international satellite navigation patent applications last year, with a total of 98,000 applications, said the white paper issued by the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location Based Service Association of China.

Applications of the homegrown BeiDou Navigation Satellite System have been widely introduced into business fields and daily life, said Sun Zhongliang, deputy head of the association, adding that mass consumption has become one of the major sectors for BeiDou applications.

Sun highlighted bike-sharing services, saying the number of shared bicycles equipped with a BeiDou positioning chip has reached 5 million in over 450 cities across the country.

China plans to open a number of unmanned farms operated by advanced machines by the end of the 2025, according to a new technology roadmap released on Wednesday.

Guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the roadmap is the country's first to focus on unmanned agricultural machinery as a final product form.

It lists out nine frontier and key technologies such as new mechanic systems, sensing and information collection system, integrated operation tools, and clean energy systems.

The intelligent agricultural machinery equipped with navigation technology and automatic driving capabilities will be popularized throughout China's crop growing plains by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to the MIIT.

Forced machine labor.

Joking aside, unmanned farming is the future. It is the right solution to population ageing, in particular the farming population that has lost the younger generations to urbanization.
