I read it's a grid infrastructure problem, not because of not enough powerplants. Big items like Ultra-high-voltage are world-leading, but the small-scale grid is not good enough.

[Thread]

If it is infrastructure constraints rather than generating capacity causing shortages in Guangdong, grid-scale batteries would appear to be a viable and immediate solution.

Guys this should add much needed electricity capacity, and it's free, so on target to achieve gas reduction commitments.

Construction of the main structure of China's Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world's 2nd largest after the Three Gorges Dam, was completed on Monday. It's expected to generate more than 62 billion kilowatt-hours of #electricity per year.

This is telling. China's steel production is ten times more than the next nearest country, India. And it's still bigger than the next ten countries combined total.

And all this growth was mainly in the last 10 years.

It underscores the point, that for some organizations and countries, it is better to have constructive relations with China.

Having China in the CPTPP is probably a better idea than to have China outside of it.

If China is in that grouping, then problems and issues, like steel production, can be discussed.

Otherwise, China does not have to talk to them.

Does "completed" mean already produce a lot of electricity? how much is that ?

This is great news as this dam also will have a flood control role in the upcoming flood season in China

I find this article rather suspicious. It seems highly unlikely India's consumption of coal increased in a pandemic year. This whole Australia successfully diverted coal from China to India article seems very... fabricated. The article didn't include enough statistics to back up their claims so I couldn't verify.

India's industrial production decreased significantly during this pandemic, after all.
