I feel Prof Yan is one of those Chinese academics that are sort of acceptable to the West, because he doesn't go head along to rebut Western narratives. But I don't think he has much influence nowadays within China, compared to Zhang Weiwei. Zhang is given a platform to air his view (together with those who hold similar views) in the weekly program, This is China which is being broadcast by Dragon TV. Zhang view is that Chinese people need be confident and not shy away from providing their narrative that are different from the West. He often praised the gen z, unlike the earlier generations who were overawed by the West. Zhang's 'allies' would be Eric Li, Chen Ping, Jin Canrong among others.
I have a tremendous high regards towards Dr. Eric Li and Professor Zhang Weiwei. I will readily admit that Eric Li's TED talk video perfectly captured and encapsulated the arguments for China and the Chinese system and it was the most cogent talk I have ever heard. From then on I became an avid admirer of his intellectual prowess and the ability to make his western liberal intellectual counterparts arguments are made hollow and intellectually disconnected. It was through Eric Li's video that I became acquainted with Professor Zhang and he too was and is masterful in handling the typical western liberal diarrhea and his debate against that pompous French philosopher was one of the best.

This is just a natural event in any nation where there are unified telecommunications and fast transport links.
Dialects tend to die out.
Unfortunately. But the states must provide some kind of preservation as a cultural heritage at least. Plus the still faster means of communication in local levels.

People who emigrate to the West should be taxed on their wealth. Usually this is the capitalist class who made their fortunes on the back of Chinese working class.
@ILikeChina agreed and most of them apply for a 2nd passport! bro I'm a businessman , so I'm a capitalist BUT I believed in Social Mobility, let everybody compete fairly, enlarging the pie is the goal so everybody benefits. BUT at least in China the gov't is an arbiter Here in the Philippine the oligarch is part of the gov't in every sector of our economy.

Isn't that illegal in China?
