THis is, I assume, a PLAAF J16. But what is currently known about naval J-16s? Is such an unit confirmed? Which one is it?



Actually I don't think so even if I assumed it to be a naval bird.
If I'm not mistaken, then this one below is a regular Block 4 PLAAF J-16 assigned to the 98th Brigade.

Pilots sitting in the cockpit of their fighter jets going through pre-flight procedures early morning sortie on May 23, 2019. They are assigned to an aviation brigade of the air force under the PLA Northern Theatre Command.

I must admit, I'm not entirely sure - esp. since that image is too blurred - but could be that these J-16s featuring the new light-grey coloured radome are indeed already Block 5 aircraft?
It seems a bit as if the construction number on this J-16 is '0502' ... and also, I never noticed this detail on the pylon's front.
