Crazy ideas thread

How about a weapon that can be placed on older AWAC aircraft. This weapon could emit high powered radio frequency waves to affect ones sense of equilibrium. Imagine this “beamed” at an enemy fighter force as the pilots are experiencing severe motion sickness, nausea and disorientation.

I'm not convinced AWACS can be made stealthy.

The platform can be made VLO, no real fundamental problem there, the fundamental problem is that an AWACS needs to actively emit signals in order to do its job, powerful ones at that. Even with LPI, such emissions are almost certain to be detected and traced, even before we start talking about next gen digital RWR and EW gear that makes even fighter LPI radar modes detectable.

Rather than try to make AWACS stealthy, my crazy idea would be to aim to make the thing near impossible to shoot down. Bring back turrets and the Flying Fortress philosophy of WWII I'd say.

Stick a phalanx/goalkeeper/Type 730 on the bottom of the AWACS and laugh as you blast all incoming AAMs out of the sky before they can hit.

If the gun platform and structural reinforcements needed are too heavy, substitute for a bigass RAM/FL3000 launder instead.

VLO is stealthy, but not perhaps true Stealth. I based my concept in this case on Tacit Blue, which is more or less the heart of modern fighter stealth and JSTARs.

Wolf the weight of adding those kind of defended would likely mean a huge airframe like a C5M or AN124 I mean your getting into Flying Littoral Combat Ship area.

That is a crazy idea that I always have, but not using huge phalanx type guns. More like 20mm or lower just to shoot down AAMs.

The AWACS aircraft can separate emitter and receiver. Why not have one big receiver aircraft(manned) that doubles as a refueling station and several smaller emitter aircrafts(UAV) that switch on an off mode at unpredictable intervalls to make targeting difficult?

A very crazy idea would be to use airships with giant very long wave antenna that defy all stealth measures of aircrafts. These airships can be made from transparent materials and are themselves already very hard to observe on radar. The surviveability will be significantly enhanced if the airships are silent receiver stations communicating via cable with ground stations, while smaller UAV serve as radar emitters. These smaller UAV can be a mix of small balloons, blimps permanently in the air and heavier than air aircrafts. They are cheap, replaceable and intentionally exposed to danger.

the Radar would still be visible and traceable with a anti radiation missile. Air ships are slow easy to spot and some what hard to control as they are given to the movements of the wind. A better option would be a tethered system using the Balloon around a a base.

Anyone thought of a new hypothetical PLA ground attack aircraft equipped with the new and powerful H/PJ14 gun? It could use two Minshan engines and be equipped with provisions for HJ-10 and LT-series weapons as well as an uparmored fuselage for defense against small arms and light missile fire.

A PLAAF A10? Its possible but highly unlikely. Pla seems more worried about sea then tanks.
alternatively the same gun, a 100mm cannon from a BMP and a towed light howitzer in a Y8 add in missiles and rockets. Finish with targeting systems and pods Y8 Specter or perhaps some Chinese language word meaning the same.

Here is a wild theory, Japan secretly provided super conductor technology to the US essential in developing EMALS and other components in exchange for the US to develop a MAGLEV line on the NEC.

JR Tokai is leading the research in super conductive material including the containment vessel for the maglev trains so if the US did receive a technological transfer then JR Tokai would naturally have asked something in return which would be a intercity commercial line which will be a big push in promoting the technology.
