Crazy ideas thread

Another crazy idea I have had for some time was a semi-auto 50.cal, like an M82, but with a massively cut down barrel (half current length), hell, maybe even a bulpump design to further reduce overall length and weight, to be used as a frontline assault weapon in urban combat.

Doesn't matter if the enemy has take cover behind that wall, I'll blast straight throw it and nail him anyways. Suicide car bomber heading towards my OP with a boot full of ordinance? Let's see him keep coming with his engine pumped full of 50.cal shells.

Even against conventional military enemies, such weapons could be hugely useful. They make body armour a joke, and would also be very effective against enemy light armour and helicopters.
There are a number of .50 cal semi-automatic rifles that can be purchased here in the United States without having to worry about getting the special BATF automatic weapon license because they are semi-auto...but they are not cheap, and they are not light to tote around.

Barrett Model 82A1 or M107A1 at about $8,500 or $9,500 respectively, SERBU's BFG-50A at about $6,500 (You can get their 30" single shot .50 cal for about $2,400), Cobb FA-50T at about $7,000, EDM Arms Model 05 at about $9,000, and others.

You can even buy a M2HB Ma Deuce semi-auto. The JNC Browning M2HB .50 Cal is one of these. It is belt fed and comes with a M3 Tripod. But, hehehe...it will set you back about $11,000.

but you have to be in a state that does not frown on it for some ridiculous reason. additionally I forgot to Correct Wolf, there is no evidence outside of Hollywood movies that a .50 cal semi auto can down a modern helicopter. It's a myth. any modern combat chopper is armored specifically against .50 cal machine gunfire.

Thanks for the detailed reply Popeye, good to know I'm not totally nuts to think about parachuting onto a warship. :p

I will never wanna face you in a battlefield. God knows what crazy weapons you will develop against me

I wonder if there's some sort of artillery where you can launch projectiles into space. Surely that will be a great way to get rid of some of our most dangerous produces. (As long as the velocity is strong enough to send the items out of Earth's gravitational pull so they don't end up becoming space debris.

Or the other option is throw garbage into bubbling magma of active volcanoes?

Startram.
you build a launch tunnel on the side on a mountain inside is a maglev system and its kept at low near vacuum. You load your payloads in tubes built for it they are propelled to ultra high speed and out a special plasma membrane on the skyward end.

That was directed as a answer to your question Air superiority.

I used to joke about wanting to invent a self mopping floor. You start with a waterproof floor with drains strategically placed in the floor and pumps. When you want to clean it. The drains close up. And pumps spray a soap and water mix. Rumba style robots cruise around agitating the mix. Then the drains open the water drains and air is forced over the floor.

I thought of one just now. There are many hostage situations where the hostage takers confine themselves to a single confined area. I'm wondering what are the chances of deploying sleeping gas, then entering the compound once everyone's down. I'm thinking of something like the Captain Philips situation. Yes, I know there are risks too, but if avoidance measures are taken, could it be a good alternative?

Also for the Captain Philips situation, I was wondering if the SEALs climb on the roof and then lower string attached flashbangs into the lifeboat before entering through the vent. Would that have worked, assuming they were not in immediate need to execute the hostage takers?

Dude, that's what they did in Moscow theatre siege. It resulted in the death of 130 hostages.

The problem is that there is no such thing as a harmless sleep gas. The dosage that would put one person to sleep could kill another person, or be ineffective upon a third person.

Great idea, the problem with this is that over time it will accumulate molds, mildew, and hard water stain that can cause a bad smell. Think of it as one large drainage system like in restaurants that needs constant cleaning.

Yea that incident popped my mind when I typed it. I was thinking that in the case of Captain Philips, where there's only one hostage, everything will be much quicker...and perhaps there's another gas aside from what the Russians use.
