We know the relative acoustic level of the 688 and 688i compared to other subs (this isn't secret knowledge anymore), and that is good enough to make comparisons and estimations.

Thank you my friend. I have enjoyd doing these for the last 14 years...and with my own work on projects like THAADS, the Virginia Class SSN, the old A-7 Crosair II, the converion of the Ohio SSN to the SSGN, and various other consulting jobs while working at SDRC (Structural Dynamics Research corporation) which I cannot go into, I have been able to add some of those insights (within limitations) to the outlook.

God speed my friend...and you keep Pri-Fly working right at all times! LOL!

Pan, thank you for that. It is a great compliment and honor...despite whatever differences.

As I have to others, I can only wish God's very best to you and yours.

In the end, He has the final say and He knows the affairs of Man and has allowed for them all in His plan of salvation for mankind...which I know and testify extends to every person who ever has or ever will walk the face of this earth.

In the men time, getting togeher and equitably discussing these things is something we an all enjoy particapating in together.

As to my health...I have accepted it years ago and know that it is one of the challeneges I have been called to wrok my way through with faith, and with the help and love of friends, neighbors, and particularly my wonderful wife and children who have taught me more about life and love than anything else in my life short of God's own love.

Thanks Jeff, just read the 2018 annual PLAN report, really awesome. I agree with most of you mentioned in the report.

TBH .... this report is way better than most who claimed "experts" (i.e Kanwa, etc)

Thank you my friend. I am honored by your compliment.

If the good Lord wills it, and I survive nother year...I will do one for 2019.

I honestly hoped to be able to live long enough to see CVBN-80, USS Enterrise be launched...but that is doubtful at this point...though it was doubtful two years ago that I would be oing this one.

    Time will tell.

Feel free to share, either from here on SD, from my own page, or on the album at Flickr.

God's speed to you and yours!

    Neither do I :D

But the speculated hierarchy goes like (noise levels: high to low) - 971, 688, Trafalgar, 688 (I), 971U/971M, 885, Virginia, Astute, Seawolf, 885M, Improved Virginia. Actual noise levels are classified.

Where did this hierarchy come from? The later ones seem off, especially the last "improved Virginia", which doesn't exist and is actually the name given to the proposed post-Block VII Virginia upgrade to become operational in the 2040s. Also, Seawolf/Virginia are considered to have essentially identical acoustic levels despite being in different classes so putting the entire Astute class in between them is trying to slice an unsliceable salami. Finally, nobody out here in the internet world has any clue about the relative acoustic level of the 885M aka "improved Yasen" so it shouldn't really even be placed in the hierarchy.
