You might be able to see a WZ-10 flyby formation in the PRC's 60th anniversary celebration on October first. Provided all goes well of course, and if they really want to, might try to put China's first aircraft carrier, the Varyag, out to sea as well. It's in dry dock I heard, probably being fitted with an engine and navigation equipments.

i think they might have an issue right now with the engine, since they can't get any more PWC engines and WZ-9 might not be ready for mass production yet. So, that's probably why we haven't seen more of them. But the initial batch should be in service for a while by now.

why would they want to mass produce wz-9? that thing looks pretty useless to me

I think WZ-9 is the name of the engine that is being planned to be used on the WZ-10. Not sure why the names are so similar.

to be honest, i really dont expect much from the WZ-10 even if its a legit craft and will make it to service. There are multiple reasons for this. The first is that all modern hardcore attack helipcopters depend on their sensors instead of visual identification. From the WZ-9 we can see the inability of the Chinese in imaging and optical hardwares. Without those hardwares, the attack helicopters would not be too different from a general purpose helipcopters with rockets attached to it. Second is the engines, which China is lacking a great deal of. Becuase of pressure from teh US, the Sino-Canadian deal is pretty much going no where. Since the EU embargo on China will not be lifted soon, China has no choice but to go to Ukraine, since Russia now doesnt want to sell China anything that they dont have (Russians only sell the stuff China already has but not able to make better, such as radars, subs, airplane parts, etc). But since the deal with Canada didnt go sour until not too long ago, incorporating a brand new engine would take another few years to complete due to heavy modification of the whole craft. By then, the WZ-10 would already be obselete just like the new Indian Hal Tejas.

I was under the impression that WZ-9A has a pretty good IRST suit that allows it to detect and attack targets in day/night, all weather conditions?

Chinese IRST systems are competitive with the rest of the world by this time, so I doubt it's much of an issue. As for engine development it might be worthwhile to work with others like the South Africans who have attack helicopter projects of their own.

You still dont think the Z-10 is legit? Look at all the pictures, articles, interviews, dual purpose civilian helicopter projects etc...Inability in the Z-9 its firstly a stopgap and testbed for weapon suites, sensors, electronics, flight systems for the Z-10. Basically a platform testbed. The basic Z-9W had lack of all weather/night capabilities. An initial attack helicopter testing, followed up by the Z-9WA. IRST, low light TV, all weather-day/night capabilities, self defence electronic suite, MFD, reconfigured pylons. So though the platform itself may not be capable attack heli, some of its electronics are well within modern attack heli standards.

Turboshaft engines are serious issue for china, but they can simply acquire them from dual purpose civilian helicopter development and projects. An their is no embargo placed between Canada and China, Canada can export any technology to China, US has no say in it nor can it stop it. It can only put pressure on the Canadian government to cease technology trade with China.:china:

Actually, the US can, because the Canadian engines are made by an AMERICAN company that has a factory in Canada, and therefore is subject to the same export restrictions as an American-made product. They can levy very heavy penalties to United Technologies Inc, which controls Pratt & Whitney Canada to the tunes of billions of dollars. They already got caught before, and were already fined hundreds of millions of dollars, so I don't think United Technologies Inc is too keen on a repeat performance.

Klimov of russia do offering helo engine (KV-500?) to China, according to klimov, the engine offering same performance as AH-64.
the dimension giving the Chinese web site, indicate the WZ-10 same class as AH-1 cobra, since there are plan to install MMW antenna on the helo mast, this could affect the helo performance, unless they are plan install even more powerful engine.
