If China started anything militarily it would be one of the best times to do so. With Europe severely weakened with inflation and gas prices, US consumers hurt and population polarized, Heavy economic dependence on China, Russia's war. And other regional powers relatively weak (India,South korea etc). It won't be the same 10 years from now.

10 years from now China will have quadrupled its nuclear arsenal and hopefully operate a few modern SSBNs. It will certainly have a larger and more modern SSN fleet. H-20 will have entered service in low numbers. Much larger Y-20U fleet. Over a thousand PHL-16s.

In 10 years time China will have built massive renewable capacity and electrified a huge chunk of its vehicle fleet. China will be trading much more with Global South than it is now. It will probably possess 100% domestic supply chain for 12nm chips. It will have begun to commercialize thorium nuclear reactors.

I think it would better for China to use this provocation to just play chicken and start overflights into Taiwan's airspace. If they are not attacked, then they can salami slicing further. If they are attack, China can attack the aircraft and rocket the airbase of the originating aircrafts.

PRC is unlikely to shoot down Pelosi's jet or invade Taiwan over her visit. People's daily just published an article under Zhong sheng (钟声) that is calling for more dialogue between US and PRC in order to avoid miscalculation. The language is arguably mild. Most importantly, it didn't contain the key warning phase "Don't say I didn't warn you" (勿谓言之不预也). a phase used to warn India before Sino-Indian war and Vietnam before Sino-Vietnamese war.

人民日报钟声: 处理中美关系必须加强沟通避免误判

Handling U.S.-China relations, both parties must strengthen communication to avoid miscalculation

China and the United States should put the fundamental interests of the two peoples, world peace and stability, development and prosperity first, adhere to the direction of each other, maintain dialogue and communication, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, effectively manage differences, avoid artificially creating new contradictions and difficulties, and handle Sino-U.S. relations with a highly responsible attitude toward history.

How many people would you guys think would sign up to die for Taiwan? Going on Reddit, you see many Redditors absolutely bloodthirsty for war.
Bloodthirsty at the comfort of their comfy couch or chair sitting behind their computers, phones etc.. where were they when the peace loving Ukrainians needed their zeal and zest for war? Nowhere....when they started to read the first hand accounts of those brave/stupid enough to go to Ukraine quickly realize fighting the Russians ain't fighting some cave dwelling goat herders like in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Talk is free=cheap and most of their opinions are trash and laughably ignorant.

The guy probably has some U.S. investments or spoiled children/family members that are living large in the U.S. or he's being cajoled by the business class group to write thus opinion piece afraid to be sanctioned and have their wealth be reduced to plain RMB.

How many more line of communication is this fella wants to have with the U.S. and what is it exactly that America isn't understanding or doesn't seem to understand when the language and text of their 4 principles are written in English.

I can't believe that Mr. Zhong could write such contemptible nonsense treating the Chinese people to be numb to constant American propaganda and provocation.

More like please Xi, don't do anything too provocative, think of all our investments and my children's inability to party in NYC, California etc..

I hate to say this. But calling the Zhong Sheng a random dirt bag just shows how little you understand CCP and its politics.

Ah Yes. Zheng Sheng words supersedes the Minister of Defence and the Foreign Minister. Perhaps, he might actually be the real premier in secret or maybe his actually the prime minister himself. Maybe Xi is just a shadow for Zheng.

Who shoots at who would be a really messy tangle to sort out, if ever.
Here goes the story line. In the ensuing violent actions and chaos on both sides, whoever that is, US or ROC vs. PLAAF, a stray missile, don't know from where, hits the plane carrying the POS VIP and it explodes in the air. Good luck piecing it together, especially if debris are spread over the seas, given the plausible deniability from both sides. The hag gets the highest possible medal of freedom on earth, and both governments shove it under the rug. Paul Pelosi gets to spend all the money, and booze. Everybody happy.
