Actually, BYD has overtaken Tesla and is the top EV maker in China now.

Nio ES7 launched. It's the first EV certified to tow RVs in China.

What's the logic behind the ES7? NIO already has the full-size ES8 and mid-size ES6. Why do they need another mid-size offering?

Tremble in fear boys!

I struggle to see how electric cars made in India will be competitive against Chinese cars, considering that most of the EV supply chain is in China and therefore has the best tech and/or the lowest cost. Plus there are already low-cost Chinese cars being exported, along with higher-end cars.

CATL has also announced mass-production of sodium batteries, so I don't see any particular advantage for an Indian company.

Plus the majority of Tesla cars now being delivered have LFP batteries which are not vulnerable to thermal runaway.

If anything, Tesla will be able to leverage the strength of its China operations to outcompete any Indian company in the global automotive industry.

Just another article written by a self-aggrandizing ethnic Indian reporter?

Imo the worst part of this "indian" take is that what Musk is asking for is totally reasonable.

Just to clarify, he's not asking for India to lower only tariffs for Tesla, that would be dumb and probably against WTO rules. Currently import tariffs are so high that even a reduction to 25% would be an astronomical leap. So the only way for tesla to reasonable sell cars in India is to setup production in India.

But that's the problem, you're asking tesla to invest billions upon billions on a complete gamble. There's nowhere near enough data points to take such a huge risk, once if ever tesla gets the opportunity to import cars they can actually gauge the Indian market and take it from there.
