You have a point here but I disagree that this was a well-planned comment by the ambassador. BD has its own (big) problems with India and it is constantly in danger from it.

With India joining the Quad and becoming the Western lovechild, BD is alarmed and will try to hedge India with China. Unless BD is suicidal, there is no way that it will join the Quad.

Which brings me to the conclusion that the Chinese Ambassador is incompetent and should be sacked ASAP as he is a national security danger by making these idiotic remarks towards BD

How the heck can you make an inference and conclusion upon a diplomat's competence based on that lone statement and reaction from the Bangladeshi ambassador? You must be aware that the relationship between India and Bangladesh has historical significance and importance since it was India that helped the country from gaining it's "Independence" from Pakistan.

That relationship can't just be severed or weakened all because China is now becoming an important player in the region as a result not only of it's economic rise but also it's immaculate handling of the covid-19 pandemic that's frankly unequal in the world. Modi was just in the country touting India's contributions of blood, sweat, and wealth for their Independence not to mention that prior to crazy Modi's disastrous handling of the pandemic in his country, it made various commitments (vaccine diplomacy, investments) to strengthen India's strategic hold in Bangladesh.

What countries like Bangladesh must understand that there's a new Sheriff in town and that hitching it's economic wagon along with it's future to India is going to be a fool's gold. It can and should make it's commitment and choice based on her needs but not at the expense of China's wealth and prestige. One can't have their cake and it eat too.

IMO if China passes the 2020-30 period smoothly it will be able to contend for the "Sheriff" title, until then it should keep developing and dont make too many grandiose statements which it cant implement.

Sheriff in town means that his word is the law and nobody dares to break these laws. China can keep making noises but many many countries are making a stand against it. Contrast that with the US, which the whole world is afraid to cross.

Even Russia, Iran and N.Korea dont push too much otherwise they know that Uncle Sam can obliterate them (economicaly if needed)

Firstly, comments of such weight are never made off the cuff or by individuals own initiative. Not even ambassadors.

Secondly, it’s hardly a surprising or unreasonable comment to be honest. If Bangladesh joins an American created club, who’s sole and express purpose for existing is to counter China, just what the hell do you think will happen to Sino-Bangladeshi relations? Bangladesh can do what it wants, but it must accept the consequences of its own actions and choices. China is just spelling out what some of those consequences will be.

The fact that the Chinese defence minister made a trip largely to try to warn Bangladesh off this path should be evidence enough of how seriously China takes this issue, and also an indication of how many times China has already warned Bangladesh in private to have flown the defence minister all the way there during a pandemic to deliver the message.

Lol the U.S. can obliterate Russia? Since when? And it what way? Not conventional warfare and certainly not in nuclear because all of us would be dead. Please do tell when and where the last time the U.S. fought a military of near or close parity? Not Korean War, not Vietnam War, not Iraq War I or II. As a matter of fact, I can't recall when the much overhyped and vaunted U.S. military invincibility actually faced off against a country that's almost on equal footing with their military.

All I can see is it's litany of operational and tactical failures not to mention strategic blunders of which they are now reeling from. I mean just look at their idiotic training of personnel in the Georgian War of 2008. Georgian military was trained doctrinally and armed by the U.S. military which was subsequently beaten to a pulp by Russian within 5 days of operation. The same can be said and apply to the Ukrainian War in Donbas breakaway Republic. You ought to as a suggestion read the AAR from both sides and look at their respective results and see which one is yapping bullshits.

There's no American way of war period. There's only the overhyped of overpriced weapons that most of the time fail to deliver what was promised or purported to accomplish. It's all about marketing P.R. talk that's it. I am sorry man, but what you said doesn't hold any semblance of truth.

The US is certainly the nosiest, but you exaggerate its power. China and Russia expand their territories at the expense of American allies and indifferent to American protests. If expanding territory isn't pushing too much, then what is? Iran and North Korea have limited power but within their limited powers, they are sensibly opposing the US with their nuclear drives. Uncle Sam's bullying powers are not unlimited or unassailable as you make them sound although America is still the premier global power.

Then what's with all your complaints about China's "weakness" and not doing more? I agree; China should conserve itself and keep developing but all your other posts show you think it's time for China to throw its weight around and beat its antagonists into submission. What makes you think for a second these concerns had not already been raised any number of times behind closed doors? Chinese diplomats only make things public when private nudges have had no effect.

You need to calm down and think things through before making rash heat-of-the-moment pronouncements about doom and gloom, especially when reading western or pro-western sources. It’s literally their reason for existence to paint China in the worst possible light and twist things to make China look bad.

I just felt that the language could be more nuanced.

I don't know the politics in Bangladesh, could it be that this FM is from a different camp or background than the president or prime minister? We have seen this kind of mess happening in many countries, such as Sri Lanka and Czech Republic, to name a few.

It's a bad sign whenever an administration is not on the same page. The foreign minister portfolio is a major position which needs to be aligned with the boss. This is occurring too often in many countries now.

Assuming there really is a rift between Bangladesh and China, could this be pressure levied at Beijing to do something significant with respect to Kashmir? Or, perhaps this is about the water dam project in Tibet?

In North Africa Feb1943 Faced off against Germans and the Italians led by Rommel and got their butts kicked in the battle of "Kasserine Pass" Up to then, things were going backward for the Germans and Italians after the 1942 El Alamein battles.
