2D and 3D thrust vector are beneficial for stealthy because they require control surfaces to move less when the aircraft maneuvers. This is actually very important for stealth.
Only 2D thrust vectoring nozzles are beneficial to stealth. When 3D nozzles are moving, they can scatter radar waves in all directions, making them undesirable for stealth.

Yeah, I know the 2D are but 3D has to be done in a particular way to be stealthy. Doing it like the Su-57 is not stealthy.

Chinese 3D TVC is stealthier than Russian 3D TVC because it uses a two-segment design that keeps the nozzle from breaking the main plane of the aircraft.

American 2D TVC is designed for IR stealth, so if the Chinese are willing to abandon IR stealth, they can increase thrust and decrease weight.

Since the original poster claimed that he saw "tens" of J-20s, I assume that this was taken near Quzhou. This type of formation flying is probably for the CCP centennial celebration since I don't see any tactical advantage.

There is also a slight possibility that they are prepping for Zhuhai Airshow.

I'm always under the impression that the cockpit is situated quite forward relative to the craft's main body due to all the equipment and machinery for the internal bays that would take up the necessary space directly aft of the cockpit.

This makes me wonder how a 2-seater variant would affect the jet's designed capabilities, and perhaps a better approach instead would be to lengthen the nose so that you'd have the WSO taking the pilot's original place, while the pilot's seat would then be moved further forward.

Having the pilot farther back would cut his field of view a lot with the canards and intakes...
