Talking about government protection we can say the same thing to CRRC too. Almost all trains in China were coming from CRRC. Government protection and preferential. The problem with Japan is that they always demanding premium or high price. Just like Sony with their smartphone. Maybe its because the effect of cost of living in Japan. Very expensive.
@Kazuo Ken bro we're deviating from this thread , this thread is precious to me and I don't want it to be locked, lets discuss it on its appropriate Thread thanks.

@Kazuo Ken Bro definitely but the CPC will strongly advise state firm to buy domestic and gently persuade the private sector to do the same, But bro private enterprise will not allow themselves to be blackmail again, like I said from my previous post, the question is being ask to Western and Japanese executive, you denied me before will I ever trust you again, that experience is a hard lesson learn.
But Chinese factories still buy high end machine tool from Japan and Germany. I don't know whether or not Japan and Germany involved in that 5 axis machine tool ban against China. If they involved....

Think about it yourself

"As the world’s largest machine tool market, the main business revenue of machine tools reached about $106 billion in 2018, with a year-on-year growth of 8.3% from the previous year. According to data from China Customs, imports valued $16.5 billion, up 8.5%, and exports valued $13.6 billion, up 16.8% from 2017. More than half of all high-end CNC machine tools and accessories were imported from Japan and Germany; fewer than 20 Chinese companies can provide medium and high-end CNC machine tools. Local industry experts expect that the demand for metal cutting, forming machine tools, and accessories will face challenges of continued growth in 2019."

Someone on reddit claimed very confidently that China won't be able to create an EUV machine this decade, and will have to spend hundreds of billions and decades to catch up, that semiconductors isn't like building normal factories blah blah

Looking at the facts I'd be inclined to agree with him. 28nm DUV is only coming out next year, not to mention all the other aspects dominated by the US like EDA software.

Realistically, when can China catch up to the west in semiconductor tech? Heck, is it possible it never catches up at all?
"Someone on reddit "
Not a qualification that would get you hired. He says China is more than two decades behind (which corresponds to 2001) in lithography machines while the 28 nm is less than a decade old.

@Oldschool @WTAN @foofy can you give us some info on some of this companies, man by numbers alone it will gives the US some serious headache and that's what we called DETERMINATION.

As the world faces a chip shortage dilemma, Chinese companies seem to see an opportunity.
China added 8,679 new chip-related companies in the first quarter of this year, up 302 percent year-on-year. Among them, 4,047 were registered in March, up 226 percent year-on-year, according to information from data provider Qichacha.
So far, there are 74,100 chip-related enterprises in China, and 22,800 new enterprises were registered in 2020, the data shows.
The number of new chip-related enterprises was 1,272 in 2011, and the number of new ones steadily increased to 7,715 in 2019.
By 2020, the number of chip-related business registrations is a blowout, with 22,800 new companies added throughout the year, an increase of 195%.

Currently, the largest number of chip-related companies is in Guangdong Province, with 25,200. Jiangsu Province is in second place with 10,600.

Basically, capitalism at work. Before the sanctions there were no large investors including the state and a few customers. Now there is state support and potential customers. Potential customers bring more investors from the private sector and even abroad. Reward to risk ratio increased massively in the last 2 years. The result is more entrepreneurs and companies are joining the game. Maybe I should return to China next year.

Quantity not equal quality. I forecast only 30-40% from these numbers will going to be a serious players in the next decade.

I wonder how many fpga players are there.

Quantity is always important to reach a critical mass.

Thats the often used strategy that China is using called "scatter-shot". First they open the field for competition, a lot of.companies are set up and then there is free for all, and then they wait of who will win...

After this cutthroat competition, the best companies will surface and they will get support from the Gov to expand and get "quality"

I aware of that. That's why I came with that forecast.

Tbh I couldn't get the clear roadmap of china semiconductor industry. What are they focus at currently? If you look at US or Taiwan semiconductor industry you can easily get to know this company does what and that company does what.

For example, TI and ADI are focusing on Analog. Xilinx is focusing on FPGA, Freescale and On semiconductor are mainly focusing on Automotive. Qorvo, Broadcom and Skyworks solutions are mainly focusing on telecommunications device/connectivity.
