They talk a lot about decoupling but the truth is that the only decoupling I see its from China's side.
When will the world declare the US a terrorist state?
The US has been crying for the US to decouple from China and now since China is agreeing they're upset warning China not to. They're looking out for what's best for China and they believe it'll be bad for China to do the very thing they want...? What did they think what decoupling would do when they were calling for it? Just like when Americans threaten their military on countries, it's meant to terrorize the people they're threatening. They want to see begging and pleading because they want see people fearing for their lives. They're terrorists. Same thing going on here. They use the tactics of fear that China will collapse without being connected to their economy but when something unexpected like China agreeing to decouple means there's no terror and fear over it. They get no satisfaction from their terrorism if China is not in fear of it. They have no sense of power over China. On top of that it was a bluff because why not decouple if they don't need China. If you don't need China, why are they whining about boycotts of Nike and H&M? The threat to decouple has always been a bluff. They're were just hoping China blinks first.
State-to-state relations improved years before. One of Xi's early successes was to find a way to bury the hatchet with Japan (which makes China's heightened military posture against Japan in the last few years even stranger).Situations change and those incidents were long time ago. As far as I know, the China-Japan relationship has been restoring since Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe's visit to China in 2018.
The current South Korean government is more pro-China than Japan's is. For a start it refused sales of the T-50 to Taiwan, which originally Taipei wanted as a trainer. Whereas Japan is providing technical assistance for Taiwan building its own submarines. Japan also has a greater depth of governmental relations with Taiwan compared to South Korea.- China has conflicts with S.Korea over deployment of the US military's THAAD, and other anti-S.Korea issues.
That's a point of convenience for those manufacturers. I don't think it's a reason people buy those cars - cars made in Japan were also popular.- Japanese car makers are committed in the Chinese market, like local manufacturing in China.
See above. Sales of Japanese cars have been consistently good and were good before the subsidies.- Hybrid cars by Japanese car makers are successful thanks to Chinese government's policies in favor of eco-friendly cars.
Isn't this rather the point? That Chinese people buy what they think are reliable, good quality items. Therefore, contrary to what emblem suggested, it's not straightforward just to replicate a foreign brand, say it's Chinese and then expect people to change their shopping habits.- Japanese cars are recognized high-end by the Chinese.
@voyager1 the Chinese had no choice, most critical component have US parts and it permeates the whole industry, its painstaking work but the reward is great even though a generation behind is better than nothing. They talk a lot about decoupling but the truth is that the only decoupling I see its from China's side.
Month-by-month Chinese companies are systemically removing US components and tech. Give it another 2-3 years and we will see in the end, who managed to decouple from the other
That's not the comment I was addressing. emblem was specifically talking about replacing foreign brands with new domestic ones. I pointed out that's not easy. If it was, Chinese companies would have already taken over all of the domestic business from those foreign competitors.China has many world beating brands

In this situation, the people simply has had enough of the lecturing and bullying that they west has been doing for generations on end and given the collapsing status of the USA, both on an economic, social and health front, now is as good as time as any to finally show that China can do things there way. The more that America keeps on lecturing China on human rights while not addressing there own hypocrisy as well as committing worse deeds which any sense of irony, well changing their spending habits is not going to be that hard when it becomes a life and death situation for the nation. Especially when these foreign companies started this fight and also, given the Chinese capabilities in manufacturing, well, this could become a new form of industry that can eventually take off when the whole nation is behind this move. Its simply that the nation didn't have the incentive until now to really fight back. That's not the comment I was addressing. emblem was specifically talking about replacing foreign brands with new domestic ones. I pointed out that's not easy. If it was, Chinese companies would have already taken over all of the domestic business from those foreign competitors.
It is possible a Chinese boycott will actually run this time, compared to previous times when it all blew over in a matter of weeks/months. But if Chinese consumers stop buying foreign goods it will almost certainly be because they made a conscious decision to change their habits, rather than because magically a Chinese company will develop something more desirable.
