Are the Chinese vaccines going to be updated to deal with the variants?
All Chinese vaccine manufacturers are working on a booster shot but they are hoping that they don't need one.

Lab results indicate Chinese vaccines are still effective against South African variant and UK variant. Not sure about Brazil P1 variant. We should have more data in a month or two. Sinovac is widely used in Brazil and Sinopharm is also widely used in a few South American countries. Sinopharm is also being used in Zimbabwe which South African variant is spreading fast.

I wonder if that is going to throw a monkey wrench into the Serrana experiment?
At the end of the day, they want to know if vaccines can reduce virus transmission and what it takes to achieve herd immunity. As long as efficacy rate is still near 50%, then a more lethal and contagious variant shouldm't prevent the experiment from getting valuable data. If the vaccine became totally ineffective, then the experiment would fail.

Not a good news. Look like a booster shot is required for Brazil P1. Let see if Sinovac could prevent severe cases or not.

Please do not be deceived by the sensational reporting from Reuters. We have seen enough of their biased and colored reporting to find the slightest hint of negativity on China and Chinese.

They are reporting about a research paper by unknown researchers that has not yet been peer reviewed and on plasma samples taken from eight people vaccinated with Sinovac's CoronaVac.

It is just a lab test so definitely not going to take this seriously.

Look like the other report about Sinovac efficacy rate against P1 is a paid advertisement by AstraZeneca to Reuters.

Not sure if this is too risky and too early. But Israel definitely is going to achieve herd immunity soon.
