Suggestion: Implement Peer Moderation on SDF

I don't feel the need to "contribute" pointless drivel as you do. If someone well informed has made a point I'm more than happy to just move on. My larger problem with the current state of this forum is that people like you unfortunately exist here.

You don't even make sense. You're the exact type I just spoke of too. Make a shit forum of your own. Kindly refrain from doing the same here. The best contribution would be your absence,

Dude, you just admitted to being a multi account user, which is strictly against the rules here, and now you are engaging in gross personal attacks and name calling.

Reported.

Multi account and attack on another user while speaking as if you owns the site. Definitely needs to be reported.

Even if I don't like the tone here between some members I'm not sure why is this an admittance for an additional account?
All he says is that "this account might not reflect that" he is already a member since 2006.

Apologies for jumping the gun. Though it's weird how he is criticizing other users without even talking in this forum much and one of his first comments is to ask for change or banning no less. I just feel it's weird how he's talking about chest-thumping and nationalist when the current climate is extremely sinophobic. I think the mods are doing as fine as it is but that's just my opinion.

I came from Reddit, was lurking there for about 2 years before leaving to come here for all my Chinese news and technologies. Being Chinese, you can imaging how infuriating it is to see anything that is China-related being bashed to the extreme. Just the other day I saw people slander my country for making a screen that the Koreans also have so the Chinese must of copied it... A screen! For the love of God. So places like this site are kinda like a safe haven for me to actually relax and not deal with anti-Chinese remarks.

His remark on how we are nationalistic and chest-thumping I agree to an extent. I feel it's kinda natural to feel this way when for almost two years, we Chinese have been slandered, lied about, treated unfairly, and attacked. With the account of all that has happened within these two years, these emotions have been boiling for a long time with no place to release or people to talk to until I came here. So I do apologize if I sound nationalistic but it's just how some of us feel. Though I do try to follow the rules of the site as much as I can.

I've been giving some thought to how peer moderation can be implemented beyond a simple Reddit-style downvote system. I don't think that's really suitable here since this site's primary limitation is a lack of moderators and "downvotes" would just put a band-aid on the problem. The core issue is that most of the problems come from new members, especially those who joined in bad faith. As such, here are some suggestions for improving the quality of the content on SDF.

All recent members (say, those who registered in the past 12 months) and new registrants be put on a 6 month probationary period where they are permitted to make only a few posts in a 24 hour period (2-3 should be sufficient). The content of these posts would be automatically hidden, sort of like how the ignore function works. The hiding would be removed either by several more senior members upvoting the content or moderator intervention. If sustained engagement with the new user's posts is sufficiently positive over a period of time, the probation could be waived.

The point of this system is to make trolling prohibitively expensive. Unfortunately, new accounts are being approved very quickly - I say "unfortunately" because there simply aren't enough moderators to handle this influx. As the ratio of users to moderators goes up, quality goes down. I've repeatedly reported trolling and nothing gets done about it simply because mods don't have enough time and there aren't enough of them. To wit:
Even if the problematic users get banned, it's a trivial exercise for them to spin up new accounts. Restricting new accounts increases the time investment one would need to troll from minutes to set up a burner to months.

I think your idea will just to a formation of an echo-chamber, just more slower than, for example, implementing a downvote system.

I think a better and more sustainable solution would be for the Webmaster to invite more mods to join and moderate ONLY the political section.

Bltizo(not sure on that) and Deino have repeatedly stated that they dont want to bother to much with the political threads as it would take much of their time plus its kinda bad for your mental health if you read all day these garbage political posts

The only issue is who are the new mods supposed to be, especially on the political section where personal bias can easily cloud a person's judgement when compared to the straight-forward nature of the fact-based military section

Yea, Stackoverflow implements that system where newbies are unable to post comments, or upvote until they earned enough 'contributions' via points/upvotes from senior/established members. That way they can preserve the quality of comments. It's pretty neat, I am like 2 points away from qualifying as a legit poster there. :)

Every internet community, especially on non-technical topics (and even technical ones really) eventually become echo-chambers. I think those of us who grew up in the '90s on Western Internet (which was the only Internet at that time) have this romanticized notion that an 'open' forum is the best way for a vibrant community to exist. I think it is pretty clear these days, this is absolute garbage. This sort of notion is up there with the idea that there must be absolute free speech for a society to not become some sort of hive mind. The reality is not every opinion counts the same in any community, virtual or otherwise. And not every opinion should. Like every real life society, every distinct internet community has a distinct Overton Window, and I think that's not just fine, but necessary. Without it, there becomes an eventual loss of feeling of community and the community inevitably dissolves. This is a Pro-China forum. Period. Many of us are either living in China, or have roots to China. We all, for the most part, see the West, especially the United States, gearing up on a societal level to, ultimately, 'neutralize' our homeland.

This is a pro-China forum. I'm sure there are some mods who would argue vehemently against that, but the reality is that is where most members here stand. And certainly at this point, within this sort of political and geopolitical climate, it is impossible to be apolitical. Everyone inevitably picks a side. The mods here really should as well. By doing what they're doing now, ultimately, you're just allowing destructive elements to enter your community easily and eventually they will overwhelm your time and resources.

I have no problem with this being a pro-China echo chamber. If there are people with an anti-China agenda who are bothered by this fact, frankly they can leave. There are no shortage of Anti-China echo chambers on the English Internet out there. I suggest they can start with Reddit.

Well, as long as the people here can make valid arguments here then I can accept everyone as a valuable member of this community even if we share different beliefs,, only if the arguments are valid and logical.

With this new menace we have now (we all know who he is), the problem is that while he has some valid arguments, he is clearly a troll, and often avoids answering logical counter-arguments against his own opinion. That he keeps doing this even after repeatedly getting corrected by other members, leads me to believe that he is just another (slightly more polished) troll
