An update from the wall climbers brigade of Chengdu says they were waiting outside at a "strategic high point" hoping for more 2016 pictures yesterday. :D

There was a PAP watching them but didn't do anything at first, but as more and more wall climbers gathering at that spot. The PAP who was watching them finally came over and order them all to leave the area. Since they didn't want to go to the tea room, they all complied and disperse for the day. So.. no new pictures of 2016 yesterday.:(

They need to be smarter. Send just a few guys, spread them around.

People call all those guys as wall climbers brigade only as a joke. :D They are not one cohesive group of friends hanging out together. Maybe they share the same interest and few of them know each other online, but they are members of different military forums from China.

I don't think they want to share the pictures with their competitors. They probably wanted to bring the pictures back and get credit and the admiration/respect in the forums they hang out in. And seems like there is only few "strategic" spots that people can use to have a good view on J-20.

Yes, the information was kind of late. :p I went to the chinese forum to check just now. There seem to be a big fight over whether domestic engines or Russian engines on 2016 the last few days before the picture you posted was release by supposedly someone working for Chengdu to settle the score once it for all. This picture you posted is not by the wall climbers. And it is still Russian engines indeed.

That's totally weird. They seem to have forgone whatever silver coating they've been using on the engine petals before and now, the nacelles are serrated and don't look as integrated with the engines as before... I'm sure it isn't the case, but this configuration looks less advanced than in the previous prototypes.

Oh, I know they're just strangers to each other. But they need to be smarter and coordinate nonetheless.

May not matter. I've always gotten the sense that the silver coating is a custom job they have to do on their own. May not wanted to use that time or resource, especially if it wasn't necessary.

I was one of the guy hoping for domestic engines even though I knew the chances was not high at all. But still kind of disappointed..... I'm going to borrow a gif from seavon of CD and cry myself a river now. :p

I think you guys are getting ahead of yourselves. Doubt the J-20 will ever mount WS-10s. WS-10s belong to SAC. CAC has more experience with AL-31s, and probably better relations with Salyut. Bringing in a new engine is bringing in a new random variable into the equation.
