Re: China had installed gold-tinted radar-reducing cockpit canopy on J-10B

The current J-20 prototype does not have a gold-tinted cockpit canopy. However, we have seen an example of this technology on the J-10B.

J-10A in the foreground with clear cockpit canopy. J-10B with tinted cockpit canopy in the background.

Note: Thank you to Maozedong for the picture and Siegecrossbow for the sharp eye in noticing the gold tint.

Erm actually I believe J-20 does have a gold tint... Or is "caramel" shade a better description? Either way there's definitely some tinting going on.

Re: China's J-20 stealth fighter signifies war of attrition

Just one thing, Martian, before you go on. The wall behind the canopy is also "gold tinted". Do we have a picture of this where the background is not yellow?

You have to look more carefully. The wall is also slightly yellow behind the J-10A cockpit canopy. The wall above and below the J-10B cockpit canopy is a light shade of yellow. However, the wall behind the J-10B cockpit canopy is a different and much darker yellow. Click on the picture for the higher-res version and it should become obvious.

Thanks Bltizo for the picture of the J-20 with the gold-tinted cockpit canopy. I will use it in my next J-20 video, which will be high-resolution.

Also, I want to thank you for being the fourth person to comment on my current video, which has over 35,000 views. :D

So, in the end, it is all down to economic game. The current administration are still agonizing over whether to purchase a few more F-22s, while the whole american economy is shaky to say the least. To develop anti-stealth and brag about it is basically as dumb as you can get, its basically throwing away 40 years of R&D and flush $600 billion down the toilet.

A single J-20 project that cost no more than few hundred million dollars (probably not even that) cancel out over $600 billion american assets.

Seriously, if China can continue to do these cost effective prototype projects and wait for american to defeat themselves, it won't be long to see America go completely bankrupt.

Not quite sure about the figures elaborated, yet your points are very impressive. I think the same situation can applied to ASBM vs. CVBG tactics.

Agreed. There will be no shooting war, as both are nuclear powers. There will be a technological race and an economic "war".

I'm all for stating the weaknesses of a platform, but this aviation week article is just sooo... desperate.

I don't think anti stealth technology is like a magic platform, it's just an incremental improvement over current systems. the aviation week article Kyli posted mentions L band AESA radar as being good at long range against stealthy targets. I believe carlo kopp says something similar in one of his articles about J-20.
KJ-2000 and KJ-200 are both supposedly L band and the PLAAF will only be getting more of them so I think they're well on their way -- counter stealth is something the PLAAF would've invested a substantial amount of money in.

It is more of an attempt to reassure its audiences of the US technological superiority against China, but an interesting read nevertheless. I would appreciate the article more if it is done before the emergence of J20.

The technological gap between the US and China would not suddenly disappear because of appearance of J20. It is highly unlikely that China could field large numbers of J20 before 2020/25. But this article has forgotten to mention that China and Russia have been working on anti-stealth technology for a long time, the west and US might have advantage against China but they are no more as dominant as they used to be.

I agree with all of you, who believe a hot war is out of the question. However, developing and "perfecting" a stealth fighter is important for insanely-complex military-technology bragging rights.

It is apparent that China is determined to match U.S. technological excellence.

For example, in 2005, China unveiled her Type 052C Lanzhou-class destroyer to compete with the U.S. Aegis-class destroyer.

The J-20, after 10 years of improvements, will be very competitive against the U.S. F-22 Raptor.

Finally, in the 2020-2025 timeframe, China will land a taikonaut on the moon to equal U.S. accomplishment in manned spaceflight and aerospace technology.

All goods -- I am surprised at the number of people who've watched the varying J-20 videos on youtube; ordinary people seemed relatively interested in this new plane.

it's a very typical textbook thing. people are attracted to new or unique things, even when most dont even have any real knowledge of what stealth is, or any indepth knowledge about military blahblahblah. but the aspects of "ohh china has a stealth airplane" is quite like a new fad. they merely treat it as j-20 is the latest hot celebrity or topic. do they actually care? no. they just think stealth is really cool. (kinda like how kids are amused by sr-71 blackbird or f-22)

China's J-20 Stealth Fighter

I think YouTube is blocked in China. I have been told by Pakistanis that my video is currently blocked in Pakistan by Sony Music, because I used Kenny Loggins' soundtrack "Danger Zone" from the movie Top Gun. Looking at the map of views from different countries, I surmise that my video is also blocked in Russia by Sony Music.

As Bltizo said, the J-20 videos (which includes mine) have resonated with the mainstream viewers. 35,163 views in 2 weeks are astonishing. I have been disappointed that Indians (with only 495 views) seem to be avoiding my video. A potentially large source of viewers is boycotting me!

I had originally planned on thanking all of you when the video hit the 50,000-view milestone, but I think I'll take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all of you on SinoDefence for making the video a big hit! There have been 513 views from this forum alone, which is greater than all of the views from the entire country of India. Thank you guys for getting the ball rolling.

Regardless, it's nice for the plane to have some screentime.

Err there are slideshows and videos of the J-20 all over youtube, just search it up.

But here's Martian's video:
