Other returnees include Roger Jiang, a senior scientist who left OpenAI to found his own robotics start-up in Shenzhen, and Zhou Hao, a researcher Alibaba poached from Google DeepMind to refine models. And three AI-focused headhunters based in China and San Francisco say they helped hire and relocate more than 30 US-based researchers to China in the past 12 months, versus a low single-digit a year earlier. This is not just a trickle of nostalgia — it is a calculated realignment. Macro and micro factors in China are creating a magnetic pull that is becoming more difficult to resist.

This macro opportunity is supported by more attractive micro conditions. Pay for top-tier AI researchers in China has surpassed Silicon Valley standards when adjusted for tax and cost of living, according to the headhunters.

Another recent returnee, Jonathan Zhou, a Harvard-graduated quant fund manager and father of a two-year-old, says: “I moved back to Shanghai because I think it’s a better place to build a family: China offers a more rigorous and merit-based education system which I prefer for my kid, and it is a safer place to live.”

Dongfang's G50 got apparently 20 orders from a Canadian AI DC. Weichai sells many diesel engines in the 2.5-3MW as well as 7-7.5MW. Just trying to increase production for North American customers.

25MW by 中国动力 (is this related to CSSC?). The 25MW version got many oversea orders, including 80 new ones from South America and expect production capacity to increase to 60 this year.

Tailing 7 and 25 GT have 1 GW of production in 2026 and expect it to reach 4GW in 2027/2028. Again, got many orders from Canada in oil field and data centers. Also ByteDance's AI DC in Southeast Asia (2GW of LOI).

CMC material is high complex, time taking and expensive to manufacture. the issue is, CMC manufacturing involves multiple high temperature cycles which requires specialized techniques.

the good thing is, China emerge in this domain at the right time as industry rapidly shifting on CMC material not only in Turbofan but on Gas turbine as well. especially Gas turbine is now a very lucrative sector and Chinese manufacturer won multiple contracts from overseas customers.

in 15th Five Year Plan. "AECC will regard gas turbines as its second growth curve and strategic pillar" that comes from their official documents.

this AEP-100 news was a sweet surprise. looks like wider adaption and commercialization is underway.

Chinese scientists develop new nickel-based superconductors​

Chinese scientists have reported a major breakthrough in nickel-based high-temperature superconductors, offering new insights into one of the most challenging problems in condensed matter physics, according to a study published in Nature on Wednesday.

Nickel-based materials have emerged as a promising third class of high-temperature superconductors, following copper- and iron-based systems. However, progress in this field has been limited by a fundamental challenge: the high oxidation state required for superconductivity is difficult to achieve under conditions that also allow stable material growth.

To address this, the team developed a technique known as strong oxidation atomic-layer epitaxy, enabling precise control of material growth at the atomic scale under extreme oxidation conditions. This approach allows scientists to design and assemble atomic structures layer by layer, creating high-quality nickel oxide films with tailored properties.

Using this method, the researchers increased the superconducting transition temperature of a previously known bilayer nickel-based material from 45 kelvin to 63 kelvin. They also engineered new artificial structures by designing specific atomic stacking sequences, two of which exhibited superconductivity at 50 kelvin and 46 kelvin under ambient pressure.
