*talk about Jianzhong Sheng, Chief of Staff of the brigade. He is also an elite pilot who flew on 9 types of aircraft.

* some previous generation pilots refuse to put the helmet as it weighs "a few pounds"

* 3 months after receiving the first aircraft, 20 pilots completed the training.

* 5 months after receiving the first aircraft, the pilots started real firing training. 4 types of ammunition with 6 ways of firing were launched

* Z-10 can exchange info with PLAAF and PLAN assets

Impressive choppers.

In the post, it says the new digital helmet weighs several kilograms... guess that's heavy, extra strains put on the pilot's neck...

By measuring the size, also don't think they are 30mm cannons, that would be a bit too large, but there are rumors saying 30mm cannon option is available, somewhere. They had thought about fitting a triple-barrel rotating gun/cannon, but was too heavy for this 6-7 tonnes class helicopter.

This looks more of a chain-fed auto-cannon (China had detailed studies on M242), modified with a calibre of 23mm though. There are other options for 14.5mm machine gun, etc.

A Chinese think-tank Rear Admiral Luo Yuan from "PLA Academy of Military Sciences" said the cannon was 23mm a year ago back on 30.12.2011, while doing an interview with a TV(on-line?) program with Chinanews.com

P.S. So they are using Microsoft mouse mats at the control centre.

Yup! a 23mm - 30mm cannon maybe too heavy to fire from a 6-7 tons chopper accurately and causes stress and reduce of accuracy for it. By no mean having a smaller calibre is no good , for example the like of 14.5mm cannon, you can double up the magazine amount with the same capacity compare to bigger rounds. Taking out light armour vehicle and army personnel while missiles will take care of heavy armour and hitting longer range precise target.

The five Z-10 and four Z-19 squadrons is correct, as triumphantly recited by asif iqbal several times. It is an impressive effort to field so many combat helicopters in about two years time.

Yep, great achievement. Whatever China lacks, sure it is NOT manpower and production capacity, as they aren't called "world factory" for nothing. Once the minor flaws are ironed out, they can ramp up with production pretty fast.

It was quite surprising to see someone else (forgot the name, anyway negligible...) on this thread a few days ago doubting how many units China can't build in 2 years, blah blah... Playing numbers game such as producing something in a very large number in a very short time is actually one of Chinese military's strength. They call it "political assignment" - the production line then keeps going 24 hours a day non-stop, people works round-the-clock, scientists/engineers need to be managed to stop overwork after their shifts are over, as they are too excited to work on this amazing project; they sleep in the factory/office for months and seldom go home to court with their partners, then the wives complained!

Very immature

You are not making Xmas toys, there's one thing to work hard its another to work intelligently, China does not have such urgent need to be going 24 hours a day nor does any other country do that unless they are at war

There is no doubt the Chinese government puts pressure to get systems running but its not the way you stated, gladly Chinese government does not think like that otherwise they would not be making this progress

And i think you need a grasp of the numbers, in the last 3 years China has produced ~60 Z-10 helos which is around 20 per year and ~48 Z-19 in the last 2 years again around 24 per year

That is not a massive production rate it's actually quite average, Boeing is producing double the number of AH-64 in its production which has been going on for more than 3 decades

Lets keep things into perspective

Very immature

...

Dude, stop being so Judgmental. I was saying if they could, they would be able to keep the production line open round-the-clock, not saying they are right now.

Also I was referring to some guy previously mentioning China couldn't build a dozen Z-10 in 2 years, was that you?

Wouldn't make more comments on how the production line operates which I know.

Regards.

No, it wasn't Asif. It was a new member who claimed China couldn't build 3 x 8 = 24 Z-10's in two years.

But all is well, the new member has since stopped posting after 3 posts which were immediately rebuked by more knowledgeable members on this forum.

What the article also mentioned that the pilots initially reluctant to adapt into this new kind of helmet, prefer the old-style headset. It seems that there is a gap or sort between the old type of flight headset and flight helmet with integrated electronics and aiming units.

If the Eurocopter Tiger can fit a 30mm gun, the WZ-10 certainly has the capacity to fit one effectively.
