Found this on my Twitter today. Looks like at least one of China's early Kilo sub had been decommissioned and is now being dismantled.

I think scrapping the 877s is a good decision. They are not silent enough for torpedo attacks and they lack anti-ship missile (ASCM) capability. And unlike the 035s (which possess ASCM capability in some hulls) they are a foreign design, which makes maintenance and logistics harder.

Long time ago, China bought loads of decommissioned Kilos and other submarines from Russia for scrapping.

Just my personal opinion but I just can't help feeling the 035s look like absolute antiques.

Given that China is supposedly behind in nuclear subs but near the top in diesel-electrics, I hope we see an explosion in the numbers of 039Cs with that amazing looking sail to replace all the older 035A/035B/kilos soon, especially with China's latest improvements in battery/power generation/motors in general.
