I think there is at least two of them. Maybe even more. You can see the differences in the markings, plus one sub came out from Wenchong and another from Jiangnan.

I think there is at least two of them. Maybe even more. You can see the differences in the markings, plus one sub came out from Wenchong and another from Jiangnan.
The sail is to keep the boat from rolling. Adding a "cap" to the sail makes it harder for water to go from one side of the sail to another, thus makes the sail more effective.
There might be hydrodynamic reasons for this, reducing noise and turbulence, but I think one particular reason that stands out in my opinion is reduction of RCS. Why bother with RCS on a submarine? This is when the sub is on the surface or near the surface against scanning radars from overhead aircraft.

One of them is license produced in Pakistan. Other ones are under construction in China.
