Is there any way to track 039 sub launches over the years? Do we have any idea how many have been launched in the last 5 years, for example? I know that Chinese language wiki lists a lot of launches that English language wiki doesn't, but it still doesn't offer any sources for those claims. Plus one can't know how conclusive that list is. Is there a better way of tracking those conventional sub launches?

They removed pennant numbers and in addition they appeared to be refitting the older subs to the latest B variant with the curved sail. Recent photos of the squared sail subs have practically disappeared.

Very interesting. Does sail change require other change to balance the system?

Edit: corrected to sail.

In principle and most likely yes. Changing of sail (I believe you meant) shape changes its drag, likely reducing in this case. So locations or volumes of the trim ballast tanks need to changed or anything that can be easily relocated.
