Bruh, not even with VLS cells now?? Only 16x NSM and 1x SeaRAM for 4500 tons of displacement? This is worse than even the 054A FFGs, and no better than the 054 twins & the soon-to-be-retired 053 family.

Lmfao what is this, a glorified corvette???

Right now us problem is that regardless of problem, it can only be solved via Burke. In worst cases(flight I) - literally, as it doesn't even have a helicopter onboard, and even rescue at sea takes whole ship.

Even "big 056" in us case will materially improve the navy, by freeing up Burkes from all the simple tasks.

The problem is that building such ships in numbers only makes sense when nation ramps up for war, and I doubt DoN is oblivious to that. Make of it what you will.

I am following a defense expert who claims that, in meetings with various American military chiefs, both in the US and in Europe, it seems they are considering disbanding NORTHCOM and SOUTHCOM to create a super COCOM for all of the Americas (North America, Central America, and South America), emphasizing the establishment of NSS priorities.
This creates a very nice opportunity for yet another purge as well.

The decision is 10-15 years too late IMO. The buildout rate is just too slow.

At this point, I think it might make sense for US Coast Guard to have their mission set increased to take over some of US Navy’s duties. Including, quite a few combat ones.

Does legend cutter (as built for cg) have a helicopter hangar sized for dauphin only or can it also house seahawk inside the hangar?

Speaking of which, Big Bun CG on Weibo made a comparison CG between the cancelled Constellation FFG and the planned Legend-mod FFL (the latter of which is based on illustrations released by SECNAV).

Certainly doesn't look like the Legend-mod FFL can be equipped with VLS cells in meaningful capacity, unless either the ship was lengthened, and/or the superstructure was heavily modified (which doesn't seem likely/possible).

the aft section will be modular, idea being to use the same containers that the unmanned ships will use. Either 20 or 40 ft containers sporting VLS cells, and possibly other systems. One container can house 16 ESSM missiles. Though it remains to be seen whether there will be room for both a towed sonar module at the back as well as at least one container for ESSMs.

Still not sure seahawk helicopters will fit in hangar without modifying the hangar first.

So after all the fuss about survivability standards for the navy they will now be using coast guard standards.

I thought the best feature about the NSC was the boat deck and how it could be used for USV’s but they are getting rid of it to use containers instead.

If the main armament is containers they might as well just build fast barges.
If the whole point of them is going to be their containers, then just go a step further and dismantle military warship construction and go on with containerships and tankers lol

This sounds like a reason to have another round of military leadership purges and install 'few' loyalists on the key few roles left
the more things change, the more they stay the same.
piracy is back, courtesy of yours truly, the world's premier guarantor of maritime security!
What happens when US declares entire countries as 'cartel' , do they start taking over the land too

A lot of people on USNI forum say the Legend class was designed from the get go with space provisioned for a small VLS module and surplus power to accommodate more powerful weapon systems and sensors.

A future Flight II could end up close to HII Patrol Frigate 4921 design proposal.
