One of the few changes the Navy intends to make to the NSC design is to construct a platform above the open boat deck for containerized mission packages, the officials said. For example, the Army and Lockheed Martin developed the MK-70 Typhon vertical launch system within the dimensions of a 40-foot shipping container. The Navy is developing more containerized packages that can be swapped from ship to ship.

“That’ll be something immediately on the first flight of ships that will be available,” the first senior official told USNI News. “Those containers could do a host of missions. That’s a core element of the future force design. Beyond that … things that are more intrusive to install, like anti-submarine warfare equipment, would be something we would look to do in the future.”

Sounds interesting.

Sounds interesting.
So they going to do them in blocks then? The first ships will likely be mostly just Legend class cutters with minor modifications, then they will consider adding some more features in the future.

I am not really sure what this offers over the Constellation class? I guess if they can build them quickly, contract out to more yards and then quickly iterate on the design the Legend class hull can be made into something viable…

Regardless, Legend class hull be clearly limited in capability in comparison to the Constellation class hull. So they are excepting something that at its best will be less capable than the Constellation class from the get go.

I think it will be interesting to see how the two Constellation class ships turn out. I wonder if they are successful the design could be resurrected? Maybe they end up build a mix of Constellation and FF(X) class ships in the future? Kind of like a hi-low mix for frigates.

So after all the fuss about survivability standards for the navy they will now be using coast guard standards.

I thought the best feature about the NSC was the boat deck and how it could be used for USV’s but they are getting rid of it to use containers instead.

If the main armament is containers they might as well just build fast barges.

This was what they were supposed to do with LCS... In the end the constraints made the integration difficult/costly/etc. and the modules never materialized.

The LCS could not perform the "Occupy PLAN around Taiwan Straits" mission, PRC shipbuilding and capabilities were improving too quickly and thus the LCS program was cancelled early.

Constellation Class was conceived as a follow up, now it is cancelled too. Meanwhile PRC shipbuilding and PLAN capabilities have absolutely slowed down allowing time to catch up.

One of these statements are false...

Honestly they shouldve just bought Mogamis to begin with.
Too much ego and bs nationalism rot
I mean read here
That’s why this is an American design backed by American workers, American suppliers and an established logistics and maintenance network. So wherever the ship sails, when the American flag goes into port, it does so with American industry firmly behind it.”

I am following a defense expert who claims that, in meetings with various American military chiefs, both in the US and in Europe, it seems they are considering disbanding NORTHCOM and SOUTHCOM to create a super COCOM for all of the Americas (North America, Central America, and South America), emphasizing the establishment of NSS priorities.
