This is a real troubling development.

[/I]

very doubtful ... with vast army iran had ... 800 rifles to support them is aren't enough and yet they gave them to iraqi insurgent. Any photo of the 100 weapons claim discovered ? dragunov maybe make senses because iran produce them

Apparently the Austrian manufacturer of these rifles has denied they are the weapons they supplied to Iran. They also stated that Iran along with several orher unspecified countries purchased a license to manufacture the rifle.
Here is a map of Iranian nuclear facilities.
Looks like a air attack on these facilities would have to be enormous in scale, perhaps involving nations other than US and Israel, does Iran have ant potential outside help?

Iran has several diplomatic allies, however many primarily share economic interests - as such you wouldn't see North Korea or China coming to Iran's aid in a conflict against the United States. Russia's situation is kind of dodgy. Being the world's largest oil producer, having competition knocked out would certainly increase market demand and as such they could reap short-term profits from it, but long-term it's detrimental to their interests if the region is controlled by the United States.

Keep in mind that even if Iran is "meddling" in Iraq, the US is in no position (save for a position of force) to complain, as the US is quite obviously "meddling" in Iraqi affairs as well. However, none of our national political leaders seriously question the "right" to complain here, and that is because they all subscribe to a world view in which the US assumes the role of global hegemon - and does so as embodiment of history's "ultimate solution". This is important to note because it means that ultimately whether or not an attack occurs hinges on US leadership, not world opinion. If history is any indicator, allies will do Iran jack squat.

There will be no war

In Iraq today the usa army has allready deployed 60% of its vechiles and that is just to fight the fight they are in right now

To invade iraq the USA would be forced to install the draft and Bush aint gonna do that

Iran is 5 times bigger then IRAQ and has 4 times the population.

Which means the USA would need a 3 million strong army to occupy the country and atleast 1 million strong to invade

TODAY there are 160K US troops in IRAQ and the US army is have massive problems trying to get americans to join the army so to get 3 million they would have been forced to install the draft and that would make the public go crazy

Also the Iranians have bought some Russian anti missile/air missiles and these will cause damage on US air craft som the USA will lose equipment which will hurt the American budget

Allready TODAY 20% of the USA budget go towards the military if bush wants to invade a country 5 times as big and that has 4 times as many people he would be forced to increase the military spending even more

And then he will be forced to eirth

Cut school and medical founding even more (not much money left there today)

Increase taxes (Bush is allergic to increaseing taxes)

Loan money (China has lent the USA enormous amount of money allready and the chinese will become super rich of it, go china!)

Agree there will probably be no war,but not for the reasons you outline.
The reasons will be because the US is bogged down in Iraq at present, and political oppostion at home.
Iran is approximatly 2.5 times the size of Iraq, not 5 times the size.
Iraq population:67,702,000 (pop growth 1.7%)
Iran population:23,115,000 (pop growth 2.8%)
Yes Iran has bought some new Russian systems, and US will suffer casualties,
but US planners know this and will plan accordingly, end result will be the same.
Draft will not be neccessary,as US will not be alone on this one,any ground attack will only go in after (in my humble opinion) approx 2 mths bombing,(if at all). Also US defence spendin is approx 4.5 to 5% of US budget, with regard to US deficit this will not be a problem as long as the USA remains an attractive place to invest!

Air power does not win wars. Anybody who thinks there will actually be a ground invasion of Iran must be out of their minds. Have you guys ever heard of the Al-Quds force (Jerusalem Force)? They are the elite guys in the Iranian military, even better than the Revolutionary Guards or Hezbullah. There are about 100,000 of them (and they are special operation guys trained in guerilla warfare) and this unit has been suspected in carrying out the Marine barrack bombings, US embassy bombings, and the attack on the Jewish community center in South America during the last two decades alone. And this is just the Al-Quds force. Take a look at the Pasandara, Iran's militia that numbers about ten million men and women! Armed with AK's, RPG's, and light mortars, they can probably make any ground invader suffer.

An air war is not going to solve anything, rather they will make things much worse. I don't think the American military is in the mood to start another war considering the strains it has right now. This is clear as General Pace contradicted Bush's claim that Iran is helping Iraqi insurgents in Indonesia just a couple days ago.

did u get it reversed, I thought iran population is 66,622,704, and i think i read somewhere that the iraq war cost about 6billion/month. also iran land mass is 1,648,000 vs iraq land mass 437,072, which turn out to be 3.77 ratio.
i think the main problem will be would u gonna do after invade the iran? it will be 4 more iraq after we invade iran, plus the current one, we basically has 5 iraq to deal with:rofl:

Agree air power does not win wars, which is why I believe in the unlikely event his conflict takes place, the air campaign will be at least 2 mths long, will certainly not be Iraqi Freedom revisited!
Did you say Pasandara numbers TEN MILLION!!!!!madre mia!,that will make Iraq look tranquil!
Are Al Quds also the force thats alleged to be involved in Iraq?

US military spending in 20% read from BBC

The total defence budget will be $379bn.

Mr Bush was giving details of the $2 trillion budget that he will submit to Congress on 4 February.

400 bn out of 2 trillion is 20%

Pop figs qouted from Hutcinson Encylcopedia, check yourself,Land mass figures you offer correct, however never actually suggested Iran will be invaded,at the start of my post I actually said I dont believe this conflict will happen, owing to the conflict in Iraq and political opposition in the US.
