TEI CEO Aksit just had an interview. Main points are:

  • Within 1.5 years TEI delivered an engine and after some improvements has been working for 4-5 years without any problem. Serial production continues and has been flying for 35000 hours. (This is the secretive PG-115 engine to power the Heron)
  • One day, TAI asked for an emergency engine for the Anka UAV. In 2 years, we converted it from a civilian engine and produced an aviation engine (PD-155) because of embargoes.
  • "It was the number 3 (TS3) engine (TEI-TS1400) given to Gökbey. Before that, we produced 2 and started them. Immediately after 3-4 months, we produced the 4th. We are about to finish the 5th. "There's more to come. We use them all the time in testing."
  • "The engine (TEI-TS1400) is constantly maturing. The engine we are currently producing is an 8th design (iteration) engine. In other words, we redesigned the engine 8 times from the ground up. For Gökbey, it was the 7th design."
  • "Gökbey's engine (TEI-TS1400) is dual-use, that is, dual-use (both civil and military). Currently, the engine used in ATAK is 1.375hp (CTS-800 variant), while our engine is 1.480hp. Slightly larger than the ATAK engine, minor redesign may be required."
  • "Our current TEI-TS1400 needs to be redesigned for military use. It's not a big job, but it has to be done. So we have to produce a military derivative of TEI-TS1400." (This was stated before and the engine would need some internal strengthening and either the addition of an extra oil pump or redesign of it, to cope with the extra G forces an attack helicopter would face).

AKINCI-C's First Flight Date Announced

Bayraktar-TB3.jpg

In the statement made by General Manager Haluk Bayraktar, “With the PD-222, AKINCI will be able to stay in the air for much longer, but of course, its take-off weight will not be 6 tons. The first flight of AKINCI-C will be carried out in 2022. PD-222 is a very good engine, we will use it in TB3 as PD-170."

"We are making special radars for Bayraktar TB3 to land on the ship, much more sensitive landing will be possible. The length of the runway of TCG ANADOLU is sufficient for the take-off of Bayraktar TB3. Necessary analyses were made. Both MAM-L and MAM-T will be used in TB3.”

So we got confirmation that the MAM-T is going to be used on the TB3. TB3 is basically an enlarged TB2 but with the MAM-T, it will be able to hit targets accurately at 30+ km. The smaller MAM-L has already gotten an upgrade that extends its range to 14-15km. Block 2 for the MAM-L and -T are coming, featuring IIR for multi-target capability and more stealthy attack.

FIRTINA-II Self-Propelled Howitzers will be equipped with a power group consisting of a 1,200hp diesel AVDS Engine from L3Harris Company and an Allison Transmission product X1100™-5A4 Automatic Transmission. BMC Power (ASFAT AŞ) will undertake the integration responsibility of the said power group.

On the other hand, BMC Power continues to work on a cross-drive 1,000hp transmission and 1,000hp (UTKU, T-Drive) diesel engine for the UTKU Power Group, which was developed for use in tracked vehicles in the New Generation Light Armored Vehicle Project and recommended for FIRTINA Howitzers. The power group consisting of the 1,200hp diesel AVDS Engine from L3Harris Company and the X1100™-5A4 Automatic Transmission from Allison Transmission is also recommended as part of the modernization of the M60A3 Main Battle Tanks.
