According to this journalist, Indonesia will order 48 Kaans. Hopefully it won't end up like the KF-21 saga.
"BREAKING NEWS. We are just hours away from one of the biggest agreements in Turkish history. Indonesia will purchase 48 KAANs. The 10-year project is over 10 billion dollars in size. SSB President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün has made a great contribution to the implementation of this project."
Their airforce is really small compared to the size of their territory. They are pursuing short (Rafale/J-10), medium (KF-21) and long term projects (Kaan/Su-57?) to increase it. Can't really blame them. It'll end up like the United Nations of airforces though.Seems Indonesia is just mad! They are buying fighters like others are buying pets!

It makes little sense but they want to be as strategically independent as possible, short of producing their own warplanes. So I can't really blame them for the diversity. The point is not the size, it is the mix of vastly different types ranging now from Flankers (Su-27 + Su-30), F-16, T-50I and soon (or planned) Rafales, J-10C (or J-10A+), F-15X, KF-21 and now Kaan!
It makes simply NO SENSE AT ALL.
