Prices ARE going up and the Chinese suppliers are only eating some of the cost because they know the cost of logistics will also increase (along with the tariffs).

something... something... no free lunch...
That pretty much gives Trump a ton of political room. Christmas is half a year away and stocking up for festival sales will be done now instead of then. This forum underestimates how much political capital he actually has. Any other political, no matter which party in the entire world can't get away with what he regularly does.

Trump 2.0 is much much more powerful. Just last week he lashed out over Amazon displaying tariffs on the bill. This time companies will probably eat some of the cost.

I basically disagree with this, there's no real way for Trump to implement price controls to prevent importers from passing the prices on to the consumer. We're already seeing certain kinds of electronics increase in price.

People are forgeting tariff pause on the other 70 countries will expire in 60 days, lol

Now that we established US cant live without Chinese exports and all other sellers are under threat of immenent higher tariffs than China, why on earth would Chinese sellers care about prices, they can jack prices up to just below the upcoming liberation day tariffs and Americans still have to buy it up.

Tariffs are a price discovery mechamism, and we just discovered a new much higher acceptance threshold for Chinese exports, Americans paying China more from now on is just basic economics
So why haven’t Chinese suppliers jacked up their prices yet? Why are some eating the tariffs.

They are not eating the tariffs. The trade deficit widened which means that there was a ton of stockpiling and import front running. They might have planned a fall in trade flows. But now the problems will be faced by ports who face a very start stop trade flows aka bullwhipping.

That's just retail. The disinflationary effect of tariffs that they have by slowing the economy outweigh the expectation of future inflation. Price increase get absorbed by exchange rate adjustments. IMO a full three months of tariffs might break the financial plumbing, but one month just means that trump runs away with this wild ride.

Chinese suppliers don't pay the tariffs, the importers do because the tariff is collected at the port or bonded warehouse. So the onus is on the importers and the firms further downstream to increase prices, which certain retailers and companies are already doing.

Technically true. But in reality, Chinese manufactures often lower their asking price because they want to maintain the sales relationship with foreign OEMs.

So Chinese suppliers bear a portion of the cost of tariffs indirectly by taking a hit on revenue.

Total weight of tariffs is actually around 43% if you include preexisting tariffs from prior years.
The 20% fentanyl tariff will be removed soon. These were originally imposed in two rounds, 10% each. In both of those cases, the Chinese responded by adding similar tariff on selected American products, mainly targeting the red states. These tariffs have not come down from China side. I think the Trump administration wanted to climb down in stages to show a win to U.S. public (30% versus 10%), but Trump will still be in trouble come mid term election, so I think he will soon remove those so the Chinese can remove their retaliatory tariffs on the red states.

Needs a citation for the tax amount on your own people.
43% tariff is a win for America.
With that kind of spinning, what number would be a loss? Also, citation for the 43%?
No empty shelves.
2-3 weeks ago, they said there would be 7 weeks before the shelves went empty and it's already too late to prevent that because there is a gap on the oceans between when inventory runs out and when the next ships arrive.
No substantial price increases for consumers
That's not what your companies say. They say expect price increases for what they had to deal with and in the US, once prices go up, they don't come back down because companies now know they can charge that much more.
since Chinese suppliers will eat a portion of the tariffs.
By the logic of saying something over and over again makes it true.
Revenue for the Treasury -$16B from April.
From your own citizens. I've seen MAGA retards brag about this on Facebook thinking China sent XX billion dollars to the US treasury but I thought you were a little smarter than them cus you're on here. My mistake.
To see America suffer China should’ve stuck with no deal.
America's already suffering, at home and on the international stage.

China has gotten so far and so much faster than the US because it is not a country that likes to force others' hand. It is actually Chinese philosophy to leave room to maneuver and slowly whittle the opponent down while gaining advantages until the opponent realizes it's no longer possible to win and slinks off rather than greedily going for the kill. We have developed and outgrown everyone because we always put our own interests first.

This is another oppertunity for China; we will continue to outgrow the US and put you in a more dire situation for the next confrontation.
Empty shelves remember.
Don't have to remember, look forward to them.
Some U.S. OEMs like Topo Athletics have already reported that their Chinese suppliers will eat some of the tariffs.
WTF is Topo Athletics? LOL Cite what they said. Big brands like Walmart have already stopped asking for any offshoring of Chinese manufacturing or drops in prices.
So why haven’t Chinese suppliers jacked up their prices yet?
Maintaining the prices means that Americans eat your own tariffs.
Why are some eating the tariffs.
Cus you're still free to dream.

Citation for Chinese manufacturers lowering prices? Are they isolated? Have some increased their prices?
