The War in the Ukraine

Isn't that because DJI banned all drones taking off in Syria? ISIS did modify DJI drones to drop bombs, but Western outrage forced DJI to prevent all drones from taking off in Syria.

Thats interesting. I didn't know DJI could block functionality on a geolocation basis, but makes sense.

It also makes me doubtful the west isn't fitting similar kill switchs to their own networked weapons, for example, the F-35.

Of course they can, they had this way back when some crashed a Phantom on the White House lawn.

There are probably ways to reprogram it, but not easily.

As @Phead128 mentioned, DJI could probably do this in Ukraine, but when you see entire Pallets of Mavics being delivered to Ukraine forces, the “DJI is aiding Russia” allegations don’t hold up

Has Russia retreated away from Kharkiv? It's all over MSM.
The more Ukrainian troops moves farther east in pursuit of Russian, the more they will be prone of fuel and supply shortage... a lot of risk to go in pursuit, it could be a bait to bring them in the open more or less. It's good for pr and morale until they are carpet bombed in the open... would have been way better to preserve the troops going back west of the Dnieper and putting all their marble to take back the south to ensure access to sea shipping.

Despite the claims coming from pro Ukraine sources about Russian failures and losses, I can only go by the verified information and the footage that is being put out to support it.

There is definitely a steady stream of territorial gains in the Donbas, slow no doubt as it may seem. Footage is relatively scarce, due to the Russian military ban on its forces using and uploading smart phone footage, so all there is, comes from the National Guard and the local militias.

Increasingly the volume of highly graphic content is coming from captured/overrun trench systems which are often full of the corpses of Ukrainian servicemen.

As losses in the field mount, the propaganda war gets more volatile and shrill and correspondingly, unconvincing. So much of the current media output tells its own story by dint of that very fact.

They tried withdrawing a little to try and pull Ukrainian troops away from Kharkov, but it doesn't seem to have worked. Any time Russia advances there they will withdraw back to the city.

It seems the Mariupol strategy will be used for all ethnic Russian cities. Hide behind human shields, if Russia puts the city under siege provoke an assault by killing civilians. If Russia wants to take any more cities in the current situation they'll have to destroy them and kill thousands of civilians.

The current strategy seems to be to just small scale engagements in the open where possible, while hitting military installations and barracks around the country. It's slow and steady and is the best thing to do in the current situation.

That said, the use of drones in this manner, while providing "interesting" videos, tactically and strategically doesn't amount to much.

It didn't help ISIS, sure as hell it isn't going to help Ukraine beyond morale/psychological/propaganda aspect

Seen pre-invasion video , indicating both sides used drones in that way on the Donbass front.

I don't know in the bigger picture how militarily effective this is ,but it makes for good footage.
